Olympic games still on, say the IOC

With the ban on the International Olympics competition for 2020 due to the covid-19 pandemic, the world is still unsure of the games this year. Although the International Olympic Committee had set the Olympics to kick off as of July 21st 2021 in Tokyo, Japan. New games have been added to the normal categories. They include Baseball/softball, skateboarding, sports climbing, surfing and Karate.

Japan as a country continues to question the decision due to the current health situation worldwide. The IOC has in the same regard formulated guidelines and restrictions to manage the situation in the host country. International athletes are to face testing once in the country and isolation for two days. The local athletes will be set feet apart until the quarantine period is completed. Their meals will be provided in a covid-19 controlled environment.

Apart from the athletes, the IOC in collaboration with the Japan government have put a ban on international spectators. Only local spectators will be allowed during the opening ceremony in limited capacity.

The games will continue till August 8th 2021 and give way for the Paralympics set for the end of August stretching through September.

The IOC is very optimistic that the games will be a ray of hope for the world during these troubled times and that the success of the Olympics will act as the light at the end of the tunnel.
