Omanyala Sets New Kenyan Record

Ferdinand Omanyala has set a new Kenyan record at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting in Lievin, France.

On Thursday, Africa’s fastest man ran the 60m dash in 6.57 seconds, 3 microseconds faster than his previous best.

However, the time wasn’t enough to overcome Italian Jacobs Marcell, who won in 6.50, with Americans Cravont Charleston and Elijah Hall coming in second and third with times of 6.52 and 6.57.

Marcell, the current Olympic 100m champion, won the men’s 60m at the indoor event to make his comeback.

It was Omanyala’s third race of the indoor season, as he prepares for the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade in March.

On February 4 of this year, the 26-year-old broke the National Record for the first time as he won at Meeting Elite de Miramas, clocking 6.63 to beat Paulvince Obuon’s previous mark of 6.70 established in 2005.

The Olympian won the men’s 60m dash at Meeting Metz Monselle Athlelor a week later in 6.60 seconds.
