Kenya’s sprint star Ferdinand Omanyala has sparked online debate following reports that he would charge Sh6.4 million to race popular streamer IShowSpeed during the content creator’s ongoing Africa tour.
Omanyala IShowSpeed Debate
The discussion emerged this week on social media, despite indications that no formal request had been made to Omanyala or his management regarding such a race. IShowSpeed, known for spontaneous engagements with athletes and entertainers, has recently staged impromptu races and public appearances across several African countries.

Supporters of Omanyala argue that, as a professional athlete, he is justified in seeking compensation for appearances linked to monetised content. Critics, however, question whether publicly quoting a fee before an official approach was premature and may have undermined potential engagement.
The episode highlights the growing intersection between professional sport and the influencer economy, where timing, perception and accessibility can be just as important as talent.
