Mercy Wambua, Commission Secretary and CEO of the Commission on Administrative Justice, has been interdicted for 14 days as investigations are launched into allegations of gross misconduct and incompetence.
The decision was communicated in a letter signed by Charles Dulo, the Commission’s chairperson, following discussions during the 73rd Commission meeting held on October 15, 2025.
During the interim, the Director of Corporate Services will serve as Acting Commission Secretary, with all staff instructed to offer full cooperation and support. The probe will determine whether Wambua’s conduct warrants further action.
Wambua has led the Commission since March 4, 2022, bringing a long career in legal and administrative roles. She previously served six years as CEO of the Law Society of Kenya, during which she was Secretary to the Advocates Disciplinary Tribunal and Secretary to the Advocates Benevolent Association.
Her experience also includes leadership positions at the Board of Kituo cha Sheria and roles within the Ministry of Justice, National Cohesion and Constitutional Affairs.
The interdiction comes as the Commission seeks to maintain operational integrity while addressing the allegations against its head. No further details on the nature of the misconduct have been disclosed, but the 14-day period is expected to allow investigators to gather evidence and recommend appropriate next steps.
Staff at the Commission are now expected to work under the Acting Secretary, ensuring continuity of operations during the probe. The situation will remain under close observation as the inquiry unfolds.
