One person died, and several others are being treated for diarrhoea and vomiting at Londiani District Hospital.
This is after they allegedly ate meat from a cow that died on Wednesday in Nakuru County’s Kaptembwo area.
Dr. Michael Cheruiyot, Chief Officer of Veterinary and Livestock, Nakuru County Government, confirmed the incident, stating that the deceased was one of five people admitted to the facility.
Several others were treated and released from the same hospital.
According to Dr. Cheruiyot, the cow that the locals ate was being treated for an unknown illness before it died.
Despite the owner’s orders to bury the carcass, neighbours defied the order and cut up pieces of meat to cook and eat.
Dr. Cheruiyot also warned residents against eating uninspected meat and urged those who had done so to seek immediate medical attention.
