Security agencies in Elgeyo Marakwet County have received an illegal firearm voluntarily surrendered by a resident as part of the ongoing peaceful disarmament campaign.
The AK-47 rifle, loaded with a magazine containing three rounds of ammunition, was handed over on Sunday in Kacheturnguny Village, Muruber Sub-Location, Chechan Location.
The surrender follows sustained community engagement efforts by local leaders, elders, and security officers under the multi-agency disarmament initiative aimed at enhancing peace and stability in the region.
According to security officials, the latest development brings the total number of illegal weapons surrendered to 281, alongside 2,033 rounds of ammunition and one rifle grenade recovered to date.
The National Police Service commended residents for their continued cooperation and reaffirmed its commitment to Operation Rudisha Bunduki, urging more community members to voluntarily surrender illicit arms and work with law enforcement to promote lasting peace and security
