Details are emerging that the man who pulled the trigger and killed Kasipul Kabondo MP didn’t know he was a legislator.
The killer, a reformed thug who had retired, was allegedly duped that a Senior political operator needed to be promoted to the next world.
His paymaster promised his protection, alleging that the system, whatever that means, would protect him.
He was briefed that the operator would be in Parliament to attend a committee summons. A special-purpose telephone line was purchased for the operation and handed over to him.
On the day the MP was murdered, the killer was allowed access to Parliament for a reconnaissance mission…and also “introduced” to the car the target was using that day. And also the sitting position.
The assailant was to ensure only his target was injured. That is exactly what he did.
It is not clear whether the murder spot was also agreed upon.
The hired gunman learned that he had murdered a member of Parliament on TV…after arriving home in Nairobi’s Kayole settlements to enjoy his crime money.
Sources close to the notorious thug and former OTC Matatu stage owner say the alleged killer tried to escape to Tanzania through the Isebania border.
But by then, detectives had already profiled him, and he was arrested before he could cross over.
Even then, detectives at all borders and panya routes were on high alert after the murder, using satellites to monitor activities on all border points.
Set Up?
The thug who shot the MP may also have been set up. Based on how easily he was identified.
On realising that he had killed an MP, he returned the hired gun to its illegal owners. An activity that detectives from DCI and other multiple-agency security sleuths easily dealt with.
Within 8 hours of the crime, the Government had identified all suspects. And profiled them.
The rest of the investigation was easy there after.
