The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has gazetted Consolata Nabwire Wakwabubi as a nominated senator for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), replacing Gloria Orwoba.
In a notice dated August 14, IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon directed that Orwoba be struck off UDA’s nomination list and replaced by Wakwabubi with immediate effect.
Orwoba, who entered the Senate in 2022 through the party-list system, was expelled from UDA in May 2025 after the party’s disciplinary committee found her guilty of gross misconduct and disloyalty.
The committee cited her association with opposition figure Fred Matiang’i, including attending his homecoming at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and political rallies in Kisii. UDA argued that her actions undermined the party’s unity and contravened its constitution.
Although Orwoba initially secured temporary court orders stopping disciplinary proceedings, her petition was later dismissed, paving the way for UDA to notify the Registrar of Political Parties and the Senate Speaker of her removal.
Her expulsion triggered a vacancy which has now been filled by Wakwabubi, a UDA nominee from Bungoma County who was part of the party’s 2022 list.
