‘He Wanted the Interior CS Job’: Orwoba Claims Sifuna Is Bitter Over Missed Cabinet Slot

Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has claimed that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna was left frustrated and bitter after missing out on a Cabinet Secretary post specifically the powerful Interior docket.

According to Orwoba, Sifuna had high hopes of joining President Ruto’s Cabinet and was eyeing the coveted Interior Ministry, a role that ultimately went to Kipchumba Murkomen.

“If there’s someone who was really unhappy about not becoming a CS, it’s Sifuna. He wanted the Interior docket,” she said in an interview with iko nini show.

Orwoba suggested that Sifuna’s recent criticism of the government may stem from personal disappointment rather than ideological differences.

“His constant political attacks could be tied to the letdown,” she added.

The Interior CS post is widely regarded as one of the most influential in government, overseeing national security, the police service, and internal administration. It’s a key power base and a natural ambition for many high-profile politicians.

Sifuna, a vocal opposition figure, has frequently criticised the Ruto administration, especially on issues concerning Nairobi’s governance, corruption, and rising public dissatisfaction. His remarks have gained widespread attention and support among urban voters.

Supporters of Sifuna defended his right to question the government, calling Orwoba’s claims a “cheap shot” meant to discredit him. Others suggested the remarks reveal the fierce undercurrents of rivalry and ambition running through Kenya’s political elite.

Neither Sifuna nor his office has officially responded to the claims.
