Over 12,000 Litres of Illicit Brew Seized in Kisii County Crackdown

A multi-agency security team on Friday conducted a successful raid in Bomaina Sub-Location, Kisii South Sub-County, leading to the seizure of over 12,000 litres of illegal brews in an ongoing crackdown on illicit alcohol.

The operation, spearheaded by Kisii County Police Commander Mr. Ronald Kirui (CP) and Kisii South Sub-County Police Commander Ms. Inviolata Imali Lumati (SSP), saw the confiscation of approximately 12,550 litres of Kangara and 70 litres of Chang’aa from two residential homesteads in Riotachi and Motonto areas.

According to police, the raid followed intelligence reports pointing to large-scale illegal alcohol production within the targeted locations.

While no arrests were made on the spot, law enforcement officials have launched a manhunt for two key suspects linked to the operations at the homesteads.

Speaking after the operation, Commander Kirui reaffirmed the National Police Service’s dedication to eradicating illicit brews that continue to endanger lives across the region.

“This is a major step in our broader campaign against the manufacture and distribution of illicit alcohol. We are committed to protecting public health and maintaining order in our communities,” said Kirui.

The crackdown comes amid heightened government efforts to curb the consumption of harmful alcoholic substances, which have been blamed for numerous health complications and social problems, especially among youth.

The National Police Service has urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, noting that community cooperation is essential in rooting out the vice.

Investigations are ongoing as the police pursue the suspects and seek to dismantle the networks behind illegal alcohol production in Kisii County.
