More than 1500 households in Nyando have been left homeless River Nyando burst its bank.
Homes have been flooded and crops destroyed following the ongoing rainfall in the country.
Kisumu governor Anyang Nyong’o while issuing an update on flood situation in the county has said,Nyando and Nyakach constituencies are most affected with children, the aged and people with disability having marooned in their homes.
He’s appealing to well wishers to donate food and nonfood items to the affected families.
“The victims are in dire need of food,water, non food items like bed nets, tents, blankets and medicine among others”, he said.
Further, the county government of Kisumu is working with partners like Red cross to transport the trapped families to evacuation centres.
The governor however, has appealed to those still at their homes in the affected areas to try get their way to the nearest evacuation centres.
