Residents of Ndeiya sub-county in Kiambu woke up to ghastly scenes where stolen donkeys were found slaughtered and dumped in Ngubi forest.
Confirming the incident, OCPD Phillip Mwania said more than 20 donkeys were found killed with their innards and meat missing.
It is suspected that some of the meat ends up in butcheries and the area residents might be consuming it.
“We are scared of contracting diseases from consuming unchecked meat,” one resident said.
He further called on the government to act on the matter as donkeys serve as a resource for their daily job operations.
“We are fearful that the donkeys will be wiped out and our business operations will be affected. The donkeys assist us with our farming; we transport water using these donkeys. We ask the government to please intervene,” he said
The incident is suspected to have taken place early Thursday morning.
