Over 200 Firearms Recovered In North Rift Security Operations

Written by Lisa Murimi

In the North Rift region, significant strides have been made in curbing criminal activities.

With the successful recovery of over 200 firearms, the area has witnessed the expulsion of numerous criminals.

Zero tolerance for illegal firearms has been emphasized, prompting their voluntary surrender or necessary retrieval through force.

Efforts to reclaim stolen livestock have yielded a commendable 78% success rate, showcasing concentrated endeavors for complete recovery. Arrests and neutralizations have effectively thwarted criminal endeavors.

Preventive measures are being implemented to discourage re-grouping in previously problematic zones, which continue to be designated as high-risk areas.

Kindiki assured, “We have enough information that they have been trying to regroup into those areas. It will not happen.” With just 5% of the region remaining, the target of ending banditry by 2023 appears well within reach.

Addressing security concerns in Lamu County, Kindiki acknowledged existing vulnerabilities, particularly land disputes exploited by criminals. He highlighted a concerning link between local and extremist groups, necessitating strategic actions.

To counter this, six security camps will be established in the area, mirroring the successful North Rift model of designating dangerous zones to bolster security operations.
