Siaya MCA Suspended for 30 Days Over Alleged Defamatory Remarks Against Ruto, Wanga

The Siaya County Assembly has suspended East Asembo Member of County Assembly Gordon Onguru for 30 days over alleged derogatory remarks directed at President William Ruto and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga.

The decision followed a unanimous vote by MCAs who found the United Democratic Movement (UDM) ward representative guilty of “conduct unbecoming of a member of the county assembly.”

The House also cited alleged violations of the Constitution, the Leadership and Integrity Act of 2012, and the Assembly’s Standing Orders.

Majority Whip Booker Bonyo, who moved the motion, told the Assembly that Onguru allegedly made offensive and sexually suggestive remarks during a public address in Oyugis Town, Homa Bay County.

Bonyo said the remarks were intended to demean and ridicule both national and county leadership, arguing that they violated constitutional standards of dignity and respect.

“The said utterances allegedly contained sexually offensive, derogatory, and demeaning statements directed at both the President and the Governor of Homa Bay County,” Bonyo said.

He further told MCAs that the remarks undermined constitutional values on equality, human dignity, and non-discrimination.

Lawmakers supporting the motion argued that the alleged comments also reflected negatively on women in leadership, warning that such conduct risks reinforcing harmful stereotypes.

They said public officers are expected to uphold integrity, respect, and decorum when addressing matters of governance and leadership.

However, a section of MCAs opposed the severity of the punishment, arguing that it was inconsistent to single out Onguru while allegedly ignoring other officials accused of making similar remarks.

The Assembly resolved to suspend Onguru for 30 days. During this period, he will not participate in plenary sittings or committee work and will be barred from accessing privileges attached to his office, except where allowed under Standing Orders.

Speaker George Okode directed that the matter be forwarded to the Committee on Powers and Privileges for further investigation.

The committee will determine whether Onguru’s conduct amounts to misconduct, breach of privilege, or violations of the Leadership and Integrity Act.

Plea Taking for Police Officer Accused of Killing Garissa Taxi Driver Deferred to Friday

By Andrew Kariuki

A police officer facing manslaughter charges over the death of a taxi driver in Garissa failed to take plea on Thursday 21,May 2026 after informing the court that he had not secured legal representation.

Police Constable Charles Ngulungu Kauwi appeared before court in connection with the death of 22 year old taxi driver Adan Mohamed Hassan, but proceedings were temporarily halted after the accused requested more time to engage an advocate.

The court subsequently pushed the plea taking to May 22, 2026 at 10:30am.

According to the charge sheet presented before the court, the officer is accused of unlawfully causing Hassan’s death on April 21, 2026 at around 2:10am in the Modika area of Garissa County.

The prosecution intends to charge the officer with manslaughter contrary to Section 202 as read together with Section 205 of the Penal Code.

Court records indicate that the matter is being prosecuted following investigations conducted by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), which has been pursuing the case on behalf of the State.

The documents further show that the officer was arrested on May 6 before being presented in court for plea proceedings.

During the session, advocate Mahat Somane, who appeared for the victim’s family, informed the court that the family had no objection to the adjournment sought by the accused officer.

“For the record, on behalf of the victim’s family, we have no objection to the plea being deferred to tomorrow to allow the accused person time to get a lawyer,” the advocate told the court.

The case is now expected to proceed on Friday when the accused officer is anticipated to formally respond to the charge after securing legal counsel.

Singer Nadia Mukami Confirms Breakup with Arrow Bwoy

Singer Nadia Mukami has opened up about periods of her personal life, revealing the emotional weight of navigating a relationship breakdown while balancing motherhood, healing and life in the public eye.

In a personal statement shared with her followers, Nadia announced that she and her partner had decided to go their separate ways after a prolonged period of challenges within their relationship.

The singer described the decision as painful and far from easy, explaining that the separation carried even greater emotional weight because of the family they had built together.

Over the past few months, I made the difficult decision to go separate ways with my partner. This has not been an easy journey for either of us,” she wrote.

Nadia explained that their connection extended beyond being romantic partners because they also shared responsibilities as parents.

“We were not only partners in life, but also parents to young children who mean the world to us,” she added.

The singer’s message gave fans a rare glimpse into the emotional reality she has been experiencing behind the scenes, away from music releases, performances and public appearances.

According to Nadia, the transition affected nearly every aspect of her life.

“As a mother, this transition has affected me deeply emotionally, mentally and personally,” she shared.

The musician admitted that trying to manage all these areas simultaneously became one of the hardest experiences she had ever faced.

“Balancing motherhood, healing, work and public life while trying to remain strong for my children has been one of the hardest experiences I have faced,” she explained.

Nadia also revealed that the separation was not an overnight decision.

She disclosed that she had spent a significant amount of time hoping circumstances would improve.

“I have hoped and prayed that things would have been different for the last one and a half years as we have been on and off,” she said.

She described the experience of managing postpartum challenges, parenting responsibilities and personal heartbreak all at once.

“Battling postpartum, a new baby, a failed relationship, a toddler, public image, business and career should be added to a million ways to die,” she said.

Beyond the heartbreak, Nadia emphasized that the focus moving forward remains on her children.

Despite the separation, she made it clear that both parents remain committed to raising their children in a healthy and supportive environment.

“We remain committed to co-parenting with love, respect and maturity for the sake of our children’s wellbeing and future,” she said.

“They deserve peace, stability and unconditional love from both parents,” she added.

As she concluded her message, Nadia also thanked supporters who have continued to stand by her throughout both the highs and difficult moments of her journey.

Julian Nagelsmann Names Germany’s 2026 World Cup Squad

Julian Nagelsmann has named his 26-man Germany squad for the World Cup.

Nagelsmann has sprung a major surprise, selecting Manuel Neuer for the tournament, despite the Bayern Munich goalkeeper, now 40, retiring from international duty in 2024 and pledging as recently as last month that he would not be returning.

Leroy Sane is included, despite his historic indifferent form for the national team, while there are also call ups for Premier League players Florian Wirtz, Nick Woltemade, Kai Havertz, Pascal Gross and Malick Thiaw.

Leeds United’s Anton Stach, who was part of the squad during the recent March internationals, has been omitted.

Germany will be hoping for a far stronger showing this summer. Having won the last of their World Cups in 2014, they were eliminated in the group stage in 2018 and 2022.

They will begin their tournament against Curacao in Houston on June 14th, before facing Ivory Coast (Toronto, 20th June) and Ecuador (New Jersey, 25th June) to complete their fixtures in Group E.

Are there any surprise omissions?

Niclas Fullkrug’s form has been in sharp decline since leaving Borussia Dortmund for West Ham — via a difficult loan with AC Milan — so his omission is no surprise.

Leaving Stuttgart’s Chris Fuhrich out is contentious. Fuhrich is a stylish winger who has had a good season in the Bundesliga and who possesses an intricate, out-to-in threat that Germany do not otherwise possess, so that might be Nagelsmann’s biggest and least popular call.

Robert Andrich has proven himself a versatile and useful squad member over the last few years and Nagelsmann was expected to select him as a security option, adding extra cover to his midfield and defence, but he has not made it either.

Nor is there room for Karim Adeyemi. The Borussia Dortmund forward has been struggling with injury in recent weeks, but — even had he not been — it’s questionable whether his form this season would really have warranted a call-up.

Are there any surprise selections?

Mainz playmaker Nadiem Amiri is on the plane, deservedly, after a fine season. Without Amiri, Mainz would likely have been relegated this year, so he has taken the hard road to this World Cup.

The big news, however, is Manuel Neuer’s return.

He retired from international duty after the 2024 European Championship and, over the past year, has consistently denied that he was considering reversing that decision for this World Cup. Even as a recently as April, Neuer was adamant, saying that his retirement was “set in stone” and that he wished the squad — and incumbent goalkeeper Oliver Baumann — well for the summer.

But Neuer is back for what will be his fifth World Cup.

Elsewhere, the inclusion of Lennart Karl, Bayern’s precocious teenage attacker, was expected but not quite certain. That will be popular with a sporting public eager for the national team to carry a wildcard and to see more of a player generally considered to be the country’s biggest hope for the next generation.

There will be less enthusiasm for Leroy Sane, whose selection will be deemed a case of reputation over form, a tendency Nagelsmann is regularly accused of deferring to. As a case in point, Sane has always been rather theoretical for Germany. His performances for the national team have been meagre and his form for Galatasaray this season did not make a strong case for his making the cut, either, meaning that Sane’s showing during the tournament will attract much scrutiny.

Are there any notable absentees?

Serge Gnabry. He suffered a season-ending injury following Bayern’s Champions League quarter-final tie with Real Madrid and will be a big miss, particularly given his resurgence under Vincent Kompany.

What is the one problem the manager needs to solve?

The German defence has suffered a difficult couple of years. Joshua Kimmich and David Raum will start in the full back roles, but Nagelsmann has to find a balance in the middle, selecting two from Antonio Rudiger, Nico Schlotterbeck and Waldemar Anton, with Newcastle United’s Malick Thiaw as a supplementary option.

There’s no perfect combination. Each “two” has different strengths and weakness. But Germany’s success at the tournament depends — arguably — more on that decision than any other.

Who are their warm-up games against?

The Germans will face Finland in Mainz on May 31, before a final warm-up against the U.S. at Chicago’s Soldier Field on June 6.

Germany’s full 26-man squad

Goalkeepers: Manuel Neuer, Oliver Baumann, Alexander Nubel

Defenders: Joshua Kimmich (captain), Nico Schlotterbeck, David Raum, Jonathan Tah, Waldemar Anton, Antonio Rudiger, Nathaniel Brown, Malick Thiaw

Midfielders: Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz, Lennart Karl, Angelo Stiller, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Leon Goretzka, Leroy Sane, Felix Nmecha, Nadiem Amiri, Pascal Gross.

Forwards: Kai Havertz, Deniz Undav, Jamie Leweling, Nick Woltemade, Maximilian Beier

Mohit Aims to Extend Strong Run as PGK Equator Tour Heads to Thika

Sigona Golf Club’s Mohit Mediratta has expressed confidence ahead of the second leg of the PGK Equator Tour, scheduled from Thursday, 21st to Sunday, 24th at the par-72 Thika Sports Club.

The Safaricom-backed golfer heads into the second leg in high spirits after emerging as the overall winner in the opening leg of the second edition held in April at Vet Lab Sports Club.

Mohit delivered an exemplary performance throughout the tournament, sparked by a stunning hole-in-one that set the tone for his victory.

Speaking during a training session ahead of the tournament, Mohit acknowledged the pressure of maintaining his position at the top, especially given the stiff competition, but remained confident of another strong performance.

“I am keen to continue with the strong performance as we head to the second leg of the PGK Tour this week. The pressure is there, but I am looking forward to the challenge. As part of the corporate team supported by Safaricom, I am hopeful that we will retain the top corporate title.”

Other Safaricom-backed players also aiming to challenge Mohit’s position on the leaderboard include Mutahi Kibugu, Samuel Njoroge, and Matthew Wahome.

The PGK Equator Tour, now in its second edition, continues to play a key role on the road to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The series also serves as a pre-qualifier for Kenyan professional golfers aiming to compete at the Magical Kenya Open.

The Thika leg will see over 50 professional golfers battle it out for top honors, including the corporate category title.

The second edition of the PGK Equator Tour kicked off in April and will run until February 2027, culminating in a grand finale scheduled for the same month.

PayPal Brings PayPal USD to Users Across 70 Markets Worldwide and Expands Access in Africa

PayPal (www.PayPal.com) today announced it is making PayPal USD (PYUSD) available in 70 markets worldwide in the PayPal account. This dollar-backed stablecoin enables users to send funds globally, with faster settlement and lower cost than traditional payment methods.

As global commerce becomes increasingly digital, individuals and businesses are looking for faster and more seamless ways to transact across borders. Stablecoins like PYUSD help power an inclusive, fast, lower-cost, global commerce system.

“Consumers and businesses around the world are looking for faster, more seamless ways to transact globally and the current system still charges too much, takes too long, and settles on timelines that were designed for a different era,” said May Zabaneh, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Crypto, PayPal.

“We are working to change that. Enabling PYUSD in users’ accounts across 70 markets gives people faster access to their funds, lower-cost ways to send money across borders, and a more direct path to participating in the global economy, and that is what drives commerce forward for everyone.”

“Bringing PYUSD to Africa is about delivering tangible value to the people and businesses driving growth in these dynamic markets,” said Otto Williams, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Middle East and Africa, PayPal.

“Consumers gain a flexible, stable way to move funds faster, while businesses can streamline cross-border payments, improve settlement times, and unlock new opportunities for growth. By increasing access to a regulated, USD-backed digital currency, we’re breaking down barriers and helping reduce friction in global commerce across the region.”

Users in newly supported markets can buy, hold, send, and receive PYUSD directly from their PayPal account.

Additionally, eligible users can earn rewards on their PYUSD holdings, can i transfer funds to friends and family, whether on PayPal or to third-party digital wallets, and convert PYUSD to local currency when withdrawing funds³ for everyday spending.

Businesses that accept PYUSD can use proceeds in minutes rather than days or weeks, improving liquidity and reducing reliance on traditional settlement cycles.

Faster access to funds can help businesses manage working capital, support cross-border operations, and participate in global commerce.

Following the launch of PYUSD in the United States in 2023, this expansion is another critical step in creating the liquidity, utility, and ubiquity of PYUSD necessary to create a more inclusive, global commerce ecosystem.

By making it available in more places through PayPal, PYUSD helps consumers send funds internationally at a lower cost, while enabling businesses to settle faster, reduce foreign payment fees, and access proceeds more quickly.

PYUSD is now broadly available across multiple global regions, including Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America, The Middle East, and North America.

Ingotse High School in Kakamega Closed Indefinitely After Students Night Rampage

Ingotse Boys High School in Kakamega County has been shut down indefinitely following a violent student unrest that broke out on the night of Wednesday, May 20.

The incident reportedly escalated into chaos after students turned disruptive, destroying school property within the compound.

According to reports, among the facilities affected was the school library, which sustained significant damage during the destruction.

The school administration has ordered an immediate closure of the institution, instructing all students to leave the premises as investigations into the incident commenced.

Authorities are expected to visit the school to establish the cause of the unrest and assess the extent of the destruction.

This comes days after Mbooni Girls High School was temporarily closed after a suspected diarrhoea outbreak was reported among students.

In a notice to parents, the school management said a number of learners had experienced stomach-related health complications.

“As a precautionary measure, and to allow the Public Health Office to carry out a thorough assessment, we kindly request parents to pick their daughters from school tomorrow, Tuesday, May 19, 2026,” part of the memo read.

The administration stated that it had engaged public health officials to assess the situation and ensure the safety of all students at the school.

“The school management is working closely with the relevant authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of all students. The health and safety of our students remain our top priority and prompt cooperation will help us manage the situation effectively,” the memo added.

The launch was held on Wednesday, May 20, at the Eldoret Huduma Centre, marking the beginning of the expanded partnership between Huduma Kenya and the Kenya School of Government.

Guardeno moved to neurological clinic after crash

Stacy Boit,

Spanish cyclist Jaume Guardeno has been transferred to a clinic specialising in serious neurological injuries following a crash with a vehicle in March.

Guardeno, who finished 14th overall in last year’s Vuelta a Espana, was injured in a training ride on 31 March which left him in critical condition.

Spanish media reported that the 23-year-old suffered a head injury after losing control of his bicycle when he hit a rock, which led to him colliding with a car.

Guardeno was taken to the intensive car unit (ICU) at the Tauli Hospital in Sabadell following the crash but has now been moved to a clinic in Barcelona which specialises in “neurorehabilitation and treatment of serious neurological injuries”.

“We continue to extend our full support and solidarity to Jaume, as well as to his family and friends, accompanying them in this difficult time,” his cycling team Caja Rural-Seguros RGA said in a statement.

“On behalf of the team and the family, we would like to express our sincere gratitude for the exceptional care received during the transfer in the Servimedic ambulance, as well as for all the care provided at the Parc Tauli Hospital in Sabadell.

“Special thanks to the HEMS helicopter emergency service; the critical and semi-critical care unit of the ICU, led by Doctors Andrey Rodriguez and Guillem Gruartmoner de Vera; and the entire neurosurgery and maxillofacial team.

“Go Jaume!”

Ospreys and Scarlets yet to sign WRU deal

Stacy Boit,

Ospreys chief executive Lance Bradley has confirmed the region is yet to sign Welsh rugby’s latest Professional Rugby Agreement (PRA).

Ospreys announced they intended to sign the deal that would guarantee their survival until at least 2028.

But four weeks on there is still no agreement.

Scarlets are also yet to commit to the deal negotiated between the WRU and the four regions which stipulates how the professional game in Wales will be run, including details such as how much money each side will have.

Ospreys and Scarlets are currently signed up to an old agreement which runs out in 2028, while Dragons and Cardiff – who are currently owned by the WRU – put pen to paper in May 2025 on the new PRA25 deal which lasts until 2030.

“It’s not signed yet, but it’s progressing towards that, so it’s very close,” Bradley told BBC Radio Wales Breakfast.

“It’s just a few details to sort out, there aren’t any problems with it.”

Bradley also denied reports suggesting the new agreement would mean budget cuts for the clubs.

He added: “There was some discussion about how you manage recruitment at relatively short notice, but no there’s no plans for a reduction in the budget.”

Negotiations for the new PRA have been set against a backdrop of the WRU planning to cut the number of professional men’s teams in Wales from four to three.

The union wants to achieve this in time for the 2028-29 season and will outline the terms of how this will be achieved by this summer.

Previous WRU proposals have suggested only one side would remain in the west of Wales, but Bradley remains hopeful for a long-term future for both Ospreys and Scarlets.

“I think we need to see the details of it,” Bradley said.

“My personal preference would be that four regions is something that works very well.

“Ospreys against Scarlets is the biggest club game in Welsh rugby and you know everybody likes to hate everybody else, but it’s a fantastic game and it’s a fantastic rivalry and I’d like to see it continue if possible.”
