18 pregnant police recruits among 54 expelled from Kiganjo College

The National Police Service has expelled 54 recruits from the National Police College, Kiganjo Campus, after a training progress assessment revealed serious breaches of eligibility and discipline.

Commandant Munga Nyale announced the dismissals during the review session presided over by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

The expulsions, he said, were necessary to safeguard the integrity of the service and ensure that only qualified and disciplined officers proceed to graduation.

Among those discharged were 18 female trainees found pregnant, a violation of training regulations.

Another 18 recruits were discovered to have presented forged academic certificates, while 10 were disqualified after background checks revealed criminal convictions.

The college also expelled two trainees who had used forged identification documents, two others on medical grounds, and three for disciplinary misconduct. In addition, one trainee voluntarily withdrew due to serious illness.

Nyale noted that some of those dismissed will not be eligible for reapplication in future recruitment cycles.

Interior CS Murkomen reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening police training, highlighting ongoing infrastructure upgrades and expanded instruction in tactical operations, human rights, ICT, and emerging security challenges.

“The recruits seated before you today reported to the college on November 24, 2025 after successfully undergoing a highly competitive recruitment exercise. They are indeed a fortunate group having been selected from among many qualified applicants. Among them, 54 had their courses terminated,” he said

Parliament Bids Farewell to Chef Mungai

Staff from across Parliament gathered in Wangige, Kiambu County, to pay their last respects to their colleague and friend, the late Mr. Gathogo Mungai Kamau, a long serving parliamentary chef remembered for his dedication, humility, and commitment to service

Speaking during the funeral service, the Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly, Ms. Serah Kioko, eulogised Mr. Mungai as one of Parliament’s most diligent and dependable employees, noting that his passing was a great loss to the Parliamentary Service Commission and the wider parliamentary fraternity.

“We have lost a dear friend who was one of our very best. The Parliamentary Service Commission has lost greatly,” said Ms. Kioko.

Mr. Mungai joined Parliament on 13th May 2005 as a Chef III and steadily rose through the ranks through hard work and commitment to become a Sous Chef, the position he held until his untimely demise on 29th April 2026.

Ms. Kioko described the late Mungai as a bright and selfless individual who willingly shared his knowledge and skills with colleagues.

She recalled how freely he would walk into her office for conversations on various matters, describing this as a testament to his warm, friendly, and caring nature.

She reminded mourners that although life is fleeting, Mr. Mungai lived his life fully and purposefully.

Quoting Psalms 90:12, Ms. Kioko said, “Teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”

“So that we may do what we are called upon to do, just as Mungai did,” she added.

The Deputy Clerk also conveyed a message of condolence from the Secretary of the Parliamentary Service Commission and Clerk of the Senate, Mr. Jeremiah Nyegenye, who praised the late Mungai’s passion for the culinary arts from a young age.

“I have come to learn of his artistic interests, including his passion for the culinary arts from a young age. His life is a lesson to all of us that interests can indeed be converted into fulfilling careers,” read part of the message.

The message further encouraged mourners to pursue their dreams boldly.

“Without leaps of imagination or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities. Therefore, I urge us all to dream big and pursue our interests against all odds because only we have the ability to advocate for our dreams and, with conviction, inspire others to support our journey.”

In consoling the bereaved family, the Clerk’s message noted: “Grief is the price we pay for love, but sudden grief is a bill presented with no notice. The loss of a child is profound, but take heart in the assurance that ‘The Lord is near to the broken-hearted and saves those crushed in spirit’ (Psalm 34:18).”

The preacher of the day, Rev. Mbaka Imwara, also condoled with the family, assuring them that God would sustain them during the difficult period.

“There is no vacuum in the Kingdom of God. Where Mungai has left, God will fill that vacuum,” said Rev. Imwara.

He also commended the leadership and staff from Parliament for standing with the family during the mourning period.

Governor Sakaja Grilled by Senate Committee Over Old Ngara Evictions, Told to Probe County Staff

Nairobi City Governor Johnson Sakaja appeared before the Senate Justice, Legal Affairs and Human Rights Committee on Thursday to answer for the controversial eviction of tenants at Old Ngara Estate, months after ignoring two written invitations and a final summons that had threatened his arrest.

The session was chaired by Nominated Senator Veronica Maina, the committee’s Vice Chair, who wasted no time setting expectations.

“Governor, this committee is glad you are finally here. The residents of Old Ngara deserve answers on the evictions, on the accounts, and on how the county intends to treat its most vulnerable tenants going forward,” she said.

Sakaja, who appeared with written submissions, attributed his earlier absence to miscommunication rather than contempt. “I did not disrespect this honourable committee.

My administration cannot and will not carry out inhumane evictions,” he said. But he was equally firm on the other side of the argument.

“Tenants must meet their obligations. Impunity in rent payment has denied the county billions in revenue, a persistent audit query my administration cannot condone.”

The committee then raised a more troubling concern, that some county staff may have personal interests in the contested properties and were deliberately harassing tenants to facilitate illegal reallocation.

Senator Daniel Maanzo pressed the Governor directly. “We need you to investigate your own staff. There is credible concern that some officers have vested interests in these properties. That would explain why tenants with proof of payment are still being evicted. This committee wants accountability.”

Sakaja agreed to a full accounts reconciliation, announcing a dedicated reporting desk at City Hall and at estate offices for tenants with disputes.

Senator Maina had the final word. “Governor, we expect full reconciliation of these accounts. And where tenants were evicted illegally, restitution must follow. No one should lose their home unlawfully and walk away without remedy.”

Government Issues Ksh 172 Million Compensation to Human-Wildlife Conflict Victims in Tana River

The Government has issued compensation cheques worth Ksh 172 million to beneficiaries of the Human-Wildlife Conflict Compensation Programme in Tana River County, in a major boost aimed at supporting communities affected by wildlife-related incidents.

The compensation exercise was conducted today in Hola Town by Conservation Secretary Dr. John Chumo on behalf of the Hon. Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Rebecca Miano, EGH.

Speaking during the event, Dr. Chumo said a total of 225 beneficiaries from Tana River County will benefit from compensation claims processed between 2024 and 2026.

He noted that 30 beneficiaries received their cheques during the ceremony, while the remaining beneficiaries will collect theirs from the Kenya Wildlife Service offices in Hola, where all cheques have already been prepared.

Dr. Chumo reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to reducing cases of human-wildlife conflict through a series of intervention measures targeting affected areas across the county.

Among the initiatives highlighted include the installation of electric fences in conflict-prone areas such as Garsen, Kipini, and Bura, strengthening and equipping rapid response units under the Kenya Wildlife Service, promoting community conservancies, and intensifying public education and awareness programmes.

He further urged the County Government to align land use planning with conservation priorities in order to minimize conflicts between communities and wildlife.

At the same time, he encouraged residents to embrace community-based conservation initiatives as a sustainable solution for protecting both livelihoods and wildlife resources.

The event brought together several leaders and government officials, including Senator Danson Mungatana, members of the National Government Administrative Officers led by the County Commissioner, representatives from the Kenya Forest Service, county government officials, and residents of Hola Town.

The compensation programme forms part of the Government’s broader efforts to support communities affected by wildlife encounters while promoting peaceful coexistence between people and wildlife.

Under the leadership of the Hon. Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Rebecca Miano, EGH, the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife has continued to strengthen conservation efforts while placing the welfare of affected communities at the center of its agenda.

Her leadership has been widely praised for combining environmental stewardship with compassionate public service, ensuring that communities living near wildlife habitats receive timely support and protection.

Observers have noted that Rebecca Miano’s tenure at the ministry continues to inspire confidence due to her commitment to sustainable conservation, community empowerment, and responsive governance.

Her people-centered approach has played a significant role in strengthening trust between government institutions and local communities across the country.

Man Claiming “Direct Orders From God” Petitions President Ruto to Suspend This Year’s Madaraka Day Celebrations

By Andrew Kariuki

A Kenyan man identifying himself as “Prophet Mdodoki Ararat Star” has formally petitioned President William Ruto to suspend Madaraka Day celebrations, arguing that the country has not yet attained what he describes as “true economic sovereignty, independent governance and national self-determination.”

In a letter dated February 12, 2026, addressed to State House and copied to several government institutions, Fredrick Kamau Mwangi claimed Kenya remains under significant foreign economic and political influence despite attaining self-rule decades ago.

The petition, stamped as received by the Office of the Attorney General, Senate and other offices, demands the immediate suspension or postponement of the upcoming Madaraka Day celebrations planned for North Eastern Kenya.

“Madaraka Day is historically intended to commemorate the transfer of self-governance and the assertion of national autonomy. However, it is my respectful but firm position that Kenya has not yet attained genuine independence in substance,” the letter states.

Mwangi argues that Kenya continues to operate under “significant economic influence and structural control from foreign powers and international actors,” alleging that global financial systems exert influence over the country’s policies, governance priorities and natural resources.

In the petition, he further claims that Kenya’s minerals and strategic resources are being extracted under arrangements that disproportionately benefit foreign interests while ordinary Kenyans continue to struggle with poverty, unemployment and rising public debt.

“There exists growing concern among citizens that Kenya’s minerals and strategic resources are being extracted under arrangements that disproportionately benefit foreign interests,” he wrote.

The petitioner also expressed concerns over Kenya’s dependence on external loans, claiming the conditions attached to such financing expose the country to “economic pressure, sanctions, policy coercion and micromanagement of national affairs.”

In one of the more striking sections of the letter, Mwangi stated that he had been “instructed by the Almighty God Himself” through a vision to write to the President and seek a public meeting before the media.

“Take further notice that I was instructed by the Almighty God Himself, the Creator of the Heavens and the Universe… through a vision given unto me on the 2nd day of January 2026,” the petition reads.

He further cited biblical references including Psalms 137:1-4 and Exodus 5:1-5, arguing that Kenya requires both spiritual and economic liberation.

Mwangi warned that unless action is taken within 14 days, he would move to court through his lawyer, seeking conservatory orders to suspend the celebrations “in the public interest.”

The petition was copied to the Cabinet Secretary for Interior, the Attorney General, the Law Society of Kenya, the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Clerk of the Senate.

It remains unclear at the moment of publication whether the Presidency or any of the offices copied in the petition have formally responded.

Cherargei Claims Gen Zs Will Eventually Support Ruto’s Re-election in 2027

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has claimed that Gen Zs would support President William Ruto towards the 2027 elections.

Speaking in the Senate on Thursday, April 7, Cherargei claimed that Gen Zs had no stand and kept hopping from one politician to another.

Cherargei insinuated that the youthful generation was an indecisive lot who would support an individual briefly before moving to the next politician who pleased them.

He claimed that they would soon ditch Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who currently enjoys their support, sooner or later.

“The current Gen Z in 2024 were with Morara Kebaso. They moved to Matiang’i, then to Maraga, and now to Sifuna. They do not have a stand.

“By tomorrow, they will move to Senator Kathuri, then back to Cherargei, then to Senator Eddie Oketch, and finally they will move back to President William Ruto,” he stated.

The Senator challenged Gen Zs to emulate Nominated Senator Crystal Asige, whom he lauded for taking a strong stand.

“I hope the young people will have a stand like Asige so that we can have a better country with a vision,” Cherargei reiterated.

Cherargei praised Senator Asige for sponsoring the People with Disabilities Bill, which was ascended into law by President Ruto eary this month.

He noted that the bill would go down as one of her accomplishments as a member of the Senate and promised to support her if she decided to run for any seat in the 2027 polls.

Earlier, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru warned those in Opposition that they should not fully rely on social media numbers as an indicator of popularity, especially if they want to unseat Ruto.

Waiguru opined that being the President of Kenya demanded a lot and, in most cases, planning that requires almost a decade to come to fruition.

Gachagua Condemns Killing of Rev. Julius Ndumia, Demands Answers From Police

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has strongly condemned the brutal killing of Rev. Julius Ngari Ndumia, the Parish Minister of Presbyterian Church of East Africa Tubaga Parish in Nakuru East Presbytery, describing the murder as shocking and deeply disturbing to the church and the country.

In a statement issued on Friday, Gachagua sent condolences to the slain cleric’s family, members of his parish, and Presbyterians across East Africa, saying the killing had caused fear and anxiety among worshippers and clergy.

“The cold-blooded murder of an anointed man of God is not only callous to the extreme but raises serious questions about the security of our shepherds and indeed the Kenyan public,” Gachagua said.

The former deputy president claimed the PCEA church had increasingly come under attack from criminals allegedly operating under state protection.

He pointed to previous incidents involving PCEA Mwiki Church and PCEA Kariobangi Church, where he alleged Christians were attacked by goons backed by police officers.

According to Gachagua, the incidents had created fear among members of the church, while the silence of some church leaders over the attacks remained worrying.

He further expressed concern over what he termed as police inaction following Rev. Ndumia’s murder, saying no arrests had been made and no official statement issued days after the incident.

“The brutal murder of Rev. Ndumia has sent panic to the PCEA clergy across the country, and police inaction so far is troubling to say the least,” he stated.

Gachagua also questioned whether the cleric may have been targeted for speaking out against corruption, poor governance, and alleged violations of human rights.

“Who killed Rev. Ndumia and why? Could it be he was silenced for being vocal against corruption, bad governance and violation of human rights?” he posed.

The former deputy president urged the Inspector General of Police to issue a public statement explaining the circumstances surrounding the killing and to provide assurances regarding the safety of PCEA parish ministers and the protection of constitutional freedoms, including freedom of worship and expression.

He also called on church leadership to condemn what he termed as the persecution of the PCEA church “in the strongest terms possible.”

At the same time, Gachagua appealed to police authorities to urgently address increasing incidents of break-ins targeting churches, where valuables have reportedly been stolen.

The murder of Rev. Ndumia has continued to draw reactions from religious leaders, politicians, and human rights advocates, with growing calls for swift investigations and justice for the slain cleric.

DCP’s Gachagua Dispatches Delegation to London Ahead of His UK Visit

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dispatched an advance team to the United Kingdom (UK) ahead of his planned visit to London.

In a statement on Thursday, May 7 evening, Gachagua said the advance team will coordinate and prepare for his upcoming visit, where he plans to hold meetings with Kenyans living in the UK.

The team includes Nyandarua Senator John Methu, EALA Member of Parliament Kanini Kega, and renowned musician Samidoh.

“This evening, I have dispatched Senator John Methu, Hon. Kanini Kega, and benga maestro Samuel Muchoki alias Samidoh to London ahead of my visit.

“They will prepare and coordinate my visit to the United Kingdom shortly with our diaspora community in London,” said Gachagua.

The former DP said his DCP party is committed to engaging the diaspora community ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“Our party, DCP PARTY, remains firmly committed to engaging the diaspora community as part of the broad stakeholders and Kenyans; their views, as espoused in our philosophy, will inform our blueprint ahead of August 10th, 2027 General Elections,” Gachagua added.

This comes weeks after the former Deputy President announced he would be visiting London.

However, Gachagua did not delve deeper into the details of his trip and only mentioned that he was going to organize himself.

“I am rushing to London for a short while to organize a few things. I will be looking for fuel and other things; you know that I must prepare myself,” he stated.

The DCP Party Leader made the announcement during the unveiling of John Mwaura as the aspirant for the Kiambu Gubernatorial seat on Monday, April 20.

Notably, Gachagua’s planned visit to London comes months after he toured the United States to engage the Kenyan community.

The tour was, however, cut short after a few weeks, with Gachagua saying he was returning to the country to join his party in preparation for the November 27, 2025, by-elections.

EACC Arrests 11 Over Alleged KSh85 Million Eldama Ravine NG-CDF Scam

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested eleven suspects in connection with embezzling Ksh85 million from the

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested 11 suspects over the alleged embezzlement of KSh85 million from the Eldama Ravine National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).

In a statement issued on Thursday, May 7, 2026, the anti-graft agency said the suspects include members of the NG-CDF committee and government officials accused of misappropriating and stealing public funds allocated to Eldama Ravine Constituency.

According to EACC, investigations established that between the 2018/2019 and 2020/2021 financial years, the constituency lost approximately KSh85 million, leading to the failure to implement several development projects.

The commission said the constituency had received a total allocation of KSh369,052,479 from the NG-CDF Board during the three financial years under investigation.

Investigators further revealed that although KSh11,506,173 had been budgeted for monitoring and evaluation activities, a total of KSh85,002,440 was allegedly irregularly withdrawn in cash from the constituency’s NG-CDF account disguised as monitoring and evaluation expenditure.

The commission said the investigation file was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, which approved charges against 13 suspects.

Those listed include fund account manager Geoffrey Koech, former Koibatek Sub-County accountant Solomon Mwaura Kiratu, NG-CDF committee chairman Joseph Kibor Aiyabei, former NG-CDF committee secretary Ann Mwihaki Mwangi, clerical assistant Dickson Kiplagat Chelimo, accounts clerks Peter Kiptanui and Evans Kiprono Keter, ICT officer Stephen Kipyegon Bundotich, National Treasury clerks Evans Kipngetich Kiptoo, Kipruto Yegon and Anthony Cherogony Toroitich, as well as Musa Kiplagat Ngetich from the Office of the President in West Pokot and former Koibatek Sub-County accountant Walter Zali Avihama.

EACC said 11 of the 13 suspects were arrested and escorted to the commission’s South Rift Regional Office in Nakuru for processing ahead of arraignment.

The suspects are expected to face charges including abuse of office, conspiracy to commit an economic crime, fraudulent acquisition of public property, wilful failure to comply with laws relating to management of public funds, false accounting by a public officer and neglect of official duty.

Meanwhile, the commission called on two remaining suspects — Solomon Mwaura Kiratu and Ann Mwihaki Mwangi — to present themselves at any EACC office.
