Fifa rules that Emilio Nsue was never eligible to play for Equatorial Guinea

The top scorer at the African Cup of Nations five months ago, Emilio Nsue, never was eligible to play for Equatorial Guinea throughout his entire 11-year international career, FIFA judges ruled.

FIFA has published a detailed verdict to explain why its disciplinary committee last month stripped two wins from Equatorial Guinea in qualifying games for the 2026 World Cup that were played in November.

In both games, the 34-year-old Nsue scored in 1-0 wins over Namibia and Liberia yet he never had formal FIFA approval to switch from Spain to Equatorial Guinea. Nsue represented Spain age-group teams, including at an Under-21 European Championship.

He has been banned by FIFA for six months from national team games.

It was a repeat judgment of FIFA disciplinary verdicts in 2013 that also ordered Equatorial Guinea to default two qualifying games for the 2014 World Cup as 3-0 losses because Nsue was ineligible.

FIFA said its disciplinary judges in the most recent investigation confirmed the reason from the cases relating to the 2013 games.

Nsue “apparently only acquired the Equatoguinean nationality (March 2013) after having played in his first international match in an official competition” with Spain, the FIFA judges wrote in their judgment.

The player had in fact played 26 games for Spain teams from under-16 to under-21 levels across six years through 2011, including at finals tournaments.

Nsue played three games for Spain at the Under-20 World Cup in 2009. He also once replaced Juan Mata as a late substitute in a game at the Under-21 Euro in 2011. Spain won that European title in Denmark.

The 15-page FIFA document dated May 10 detailed what seemed to have been a chaotic process a decade earlier for the Equatoguinean federation trying to get Nsue approved.

The federation asked Spanish officials, but not FIFA, in 2013 for Nsue’s release then selected and fielded him in two World Cup qualifying games without even asking for formal permission. Those games were later defaulted as 3-0 losses.

In December 2013, FIFA denied the request for Nsue to change eligibility and cited the belatedly acquired new nationality. Yet he continued to play for the Equatorial Guinea team.

Nsue “still took part in a substantial number of matches for the (men’s senior) representative team of the FEGUIFOOT over a significant period of time, while undoubtedly knowing that he was ineligible,” the FIFA judges wrote.

He played in World Cup qualifying games for the 2018 and 2022 tournaments despite those disciplinary cases and defaulted games from the 2014 edition. It is unclear why FIFA did not prosecute those games.

Nsue also played at the 2015 African Cup of Nations that Equatorial Guinea staged as a replacement host despite earlier being disqualified from the qualifying program over an ineligible player. He also played at the 2022 AFCON, organized outside FIFA’s control by the Confederation of African Football.

Nsue has played more than 40 national team games and scored 23 goals, including five in January at the most recent AFCON. The publicity he received in Ivory Coast seemed to have provoked a renewed disciplinary case.

The latest investigation was opened by FIFA in March and Nsue was contacted with a six-day deadline to respond to the pending charge.

“No position was received from the respondent,” FIFA judges wrote.

The judges also explained they took action only against Nsue’s 2026 World Cup games because that is a currently active competition.

Nsue, who now plays for Spanish lower-tier team Intercity, and his national federation can appeal against the sanctions, first to FIFA and later the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Driver Who Assaulted Traffic Police To Spend The Night In Police Custody

The 19-year-old first year University student who allegedly assaulted a police officer along Kamiti Road will be detained in custody until tomorrow when the court is expected to rule on whether to release him on bond.

Ian Njoroge was today arraigned in court and charged with robbery with violence where the prosecution alleged that he robbed a police officer of a communication gadget and in the process used violence.

He appeared before Milimani Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi today and denied three criminal charges.

According to the charge sheet, Njoroge on June 2, 2024, jointly with others not before the court, violently robbed Corporal Jacob Ogendo, of a police communication gadget and a mobile phone valued at Sh50,000.

He faced a second count of unlawfully assaulting the officer and causing him grievous harm.

Further, he was charged with resisting arrest by the said officer Ogendo who at the time of the resistance was acting in the due execution of his duty.

The prosecution opposed his release on bail and requested for three days to file their affidavit opposing bond.

However, defence lawyers led by Duncan Okatch and Soyinka Lempaa said there are no compelling reasons to deny the accused bond.

“Your honor the accused person before you is19 years old hr was brought to court by 21 armed police officers, the number of police of police officers who escorted him are more than his age, these police officers if they had time to sit down they would have produced an affidavit, they cannot come to court 21 people to say that one individual could not sit down to draft a five page affidavit.” submitted the defense.

The Court will issue a ruling on his bail and bond release tomorrow.

KAM Advocates for Implementation of Favourable Business Policies in Finance Bill 2024

The Finance Bill 2024 makes a few progressive recommendations meant to encourage the expansion of industry. Nevertheless, a few others will obstruct this goal and ultimately affect Mwananchi.

The Principal Secretary of the State Department of Industry, Dr. Juma Mukhwana, was invited by the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) to discuss the impacts of the Finance Bill 2024 on the manufacturing sector and the economy.

Bharat Shah, the Chair of the KAM Trade and Tax Committee, emphasised the necessity for policies that promote manufacturing and strengthen Kenya’s industrial capacities.

He also stressed that, “The Finance Act 2023 punished manufacturers; levies affected manufacturers’ competitiveness. VAT was another problem; we experienced reduced exports and businesses do not want to expand because of additional costs.”

Job Wanjohi, Head of Policy Research and Advocacy at KAM, presented a summary of the comparison between the Finance Act 2023 and the Finance Bill 2024, assuming that the proposals are approved.

The Bill suggests levying the Miscellaneous Fees and Levies Act’s Export Investment Promotion Levy (EIPL) on raw materials used in value-added manufacturing.

Due to the higher cost of production, this levy will hurt local industries’ ability to compete in both domestic and international markets.

In simple terms this aforementioned fee was introduced in 2023 on industrial raw supplies such steel billets, cement clinkers, and kraft paper, supposedly in an effort to boost regional industry.

The implementation of an environmentally-imposed tax on certain commodities produced or imported into Kenya will inevitably result in a price increase for all plastic packaging materials, batteries, and hygiene products.

In order to manufacture value addition, raw materials and intermediate products will become more expensive as a result of the proposal to raise the Import Declaration Fund (IDF) from 2.5% to 3.0%.

The cost burden on Mwananchi will eventually rise due to the anticipated 25% excise levy on vegetable oils, as cooking oil is still a necessary item.

Mr Wanjohi reiterated, “We have made several presentations to the Parliamentary Finance Committee. Our call to the Principal Secretary for Industry is to thoroughly examine the proposals and recommendations from KAM and consider their inclusion in developing the Finance Act 2024.”

He added, “As we engage and deliberate on the Finance Bill 2024, KAM shall continue to advocate for a conducive business environment through the implementation of the right policies. Our focus as a country must be on supporting the manufacturing industry to create jobs and wealth, boost productivity, lower the cost of living, and ultimately, create prosperity for Kenya.”

President Ruto Urges Korean Investors to Collaborate With Africa to Boost the Continent’s Economy

President William Ruto emphasised the vital role Korea can play in the transformation of Africa in his speech at the first-ever Korea-Africa Summit on Tuesday.

South Korea’ President Yoon Suk Yeol convened the summit at the Korea International Exhibition Centre in Goyang, South Korea, with the theme “The Future We Make Together: Shared Growth, Sustainability, and Solidarity.”

According to the president, Africa is eager to explore strong collaborations with Korean businesses in order to leverage the continent’s immense potential into investment and opportunities that will boost employment and the continent’s economy.

Africa has immense potential, but converting it into an opportunity and ultimately an investment requires the involvement of Korean investors and the Korean government, according to Ruto.

He made the point that Africa still has a lot of untapped potential in terms of its resources, which include a young, skilled labour force, an abundance of arable land, significant reserves of renewable energy, and substantial mineral resources.

He indicated that the main areas of collaboration between Korea and Africa include food security, science and technology, peace and security, and health security.

“This summit demonstrates a resolve to elevate this relationship and mobilise political will needed for Africa and Korea to prosper together through mutually beneficial collaborations. To do this, we must leverage on our complementarities and implement win-win strategies on the basis of equal partnership,” said President Ruto.

Reggae Queen Fyah Mummah Njambi Koikai dies after battling long illness

Renowned media celebrity and Reggae queen Mary Njambi Koikai alias Fyah Mummah Jahmby Koikai is dead.

Confirming the sad news, Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba, Njambi succumbed to illness while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital on Monday night, June 3, 2024.

This comes days after the Reggae queen took to social media to appeal for blood donations from her fans, updating that she had been admitted to the Pioneer Ward at Nairobi Hospital.

“Hi fam, I am currently admitted at Pioneer Ward Nairobi Hospital and I kindly require blood O positive. Kindly asking for a blood donor for Mary Njambi Koikai,” she had shared.

Over the years, Fyah Mummah has been vocal about her fight with Endometriosis, revealing how the ailment had affected her crucial body organs, including the heart, lungs, spine, and appendix.

Unfortunately for her, it took 17 years to be diagnosed with the life-threatening disease.

“The extent of the disease had spread to my teeth, heart, and appendix and affected my spine, causing my organs to shift to the left. The adverse effects of Endometriosis and Adenomyosis cause infertility,” she said.

“The damage caused due to late diagnosis and lack of treatment in our country it took me 17 years to get a diagnosis. After fundraising for specialized treatment.”

Njambi was in and out of hospital, experiencing some of her worst days during her menstrual periods.

“In my case, that lining grew on my lungs, causing my lungs to collapse every month and countless surgeries. We shed the lining of the uterus during our monthly periods; unfortunately, with Endometriosis, that lining grows on other parts of the body,” she had intimated.

On May 20, 2024, Njambi made a heartfelt appeal to President William Ruto before his state visit to the US. She asked the head of state to leverage the opportunity and seek partnerships that would help address the issues faced by women suffering from Endometriosis.

“This is a sincere and heartfelt call of help to a few Kenyan leaders but allow me to address this to President William Ruto first as he makes his state visit to the US. Mr. President, one of the thematic areas in your visit is investment in health,”she said.

“Atlanta, Georgia is a dream city for every young girl and woman who has ever battled this horrific disease called Endometriosis. Therein lies a centre dedicated to restoring the lives of young girls and women who are crippled by this disease.

“It would be a game-changer for the Kenyan delegation to visit the Center For Endometriosis Care in Atlanta, Georgia. Send our gynaecologists, pulmonologists, neurologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, and cardiologists for further training or fellowships,” Njambi pleaded.

Eric Omondi Arrested After Leading Mama Mboga Revolution Protests Outside Parliament

Comedian Eric Omondi has been arrested outside Parliament building for demonstrating with mama mbogas against the Finance Bill 2024.

Wearing an outfit resembling a police uniform, he and a group of protesters displayed signs denouncing the proposed Finance Bill 2024 by the government.

The protestors brought many sukuma wiki (collard greens) and scattered them at the parliament’s entrance.

Amidst the chaos, Eric impersonated a police officer and attempted to quell the protestors using force.

Shortly after, real police officers at the gate apprehended Eric and escorted him inside while the others dispersed in disarray.

Eric later uploaded a video of the incident to his Instagram, captioning it with a strong message against the Finance Act 2024.

“We will not allow this government to kill and suffocate Kenyans with the Finance Act 2024!!! Kenyans are suffering and dying in hospitals without medicine while they tax us to buy cars, houses and expensive travel abroad,” he wrote.

Spare Me The Shame Of Begging, Pay Taxes! – CS Linturi Tells Kenyans

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi has urged Kenyans to pay their taxes so that government officials do not have to beg for aid in foreign countries.

Linturi contended that in order for the country to become self-reliant, taxes must be paid.

“Let me be asked we gave you money in the Ministry of Agriculture and livestock, how did you spend it? That is the question I would like to entertain and not whether you will pay taxes or not,” Linturi said.

The Agriculture CS added that he has had to ask for food aid in foreign nations, and sometimes, the request is denied.

“When I go begging in Italy and India for rice and other things and I am told we are sorry we cannot give you because our country requires rice and since we do not have enough you go back home and when you go back home there is nothing your taking home people become very helpless. Please spare me that shame,” he stated.

Linturi argued that when Kenyans pay taxes, government will be able to develop rice schemes, and produce enough food for local consumption.

“I am happy to report that the country right now has enough maize for itself we are producing enough maize for ourselves We have been producing maize for one and a half years and that is something to be proud of we have increased our milk production and many other areas.”

Bien To Relocate His Club To Kilimani

Bien is reportedly set to reopen his Manhattan nightclub in Nairobi’s Kilimani area after the club was previously shut down following an eviction from Imaara Mall along Mombasa Road.

According to a statement from Manhattan, the closure was due to “breach of contract, intimidation, and harassment by the landlord.”

The nightclub, which initially launched in July 2022, was closed in March 2024 after a dispute between its management and the property owner.

Sources indicate that preparations are currently underway to relaunch the popular entertainment venue in Kilimani, though the exact location has yet to be confirmed or announced.

Donald Trump joins TikTok despite previously wanting ban

Donald Trump has joined TikTok, despite attempting to ban it on national security grounds during his presidency.

In 2020 he signed a presidential executive order attempting to ban the platform for its links to China, which was ultimately blocked by US courts.

He has since criticised recent attempts to curtail it, saying this would empower Facebook-owner Meta.

Mr Trump, who has amassed more than 3.6 million followers since launching his account on Saturday, said he will use “every tool available to speak directly with the American people”.

President Joe Biden is also using the platform to campaign for re-election in November, but he has only picked up 340,000 followers – ten times fewer than that of his rival.

It comes after President Biden signed into law a bill which gives the social media platform’s Chinese owner, ByteDance, nine months to divest the app or it will be blocked in the US.

The law was introduced because of concerns TikTok might share user data with the Chinese government – claims it has always denied.

The move by Mr Biden came as some surprise to the platform’s estimated 170 million users in the US.

Marcus Bosch, a researcher at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, said some TikTok users might see Mr Trump as “a potential preserver” of the app in the face of a potential ban – which might explain the speed at which he gained his following.

“TikTok alone is not decisive for the election but it has been a great real-time sensor for cultural and social atmosphere,” he told the BBC.

Karoline Leavitt, a spokesperson for the Trump campaign, told NBC News the former president had “already gained significant ground with young voters and this is another way to reach them”.

His first TikTok, a 13-second video of him attending a mixed martial arts event, has been viewed more than 60 million times.

It comes after Mr Trump was convicted following a seven-week criminal trial.

Jurors found him guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records, as part of an effort to conceal hush-money payments to adult film performer Stormy Daniels.

Mr Trump acknowledged in an interview with CNBC in March that the app did pose a national security risk, but argued a ban would strengthen Facebook as “an enemy of the people along with a lot of the media”.

His Facebook and Instagram accounts were suspended following the US Capitol riots on 6 January 2021, but these have since been reinstated.

Mr Trump launched his own alternative social media platform, Truth Social, in 2022 – he reportedly owns a near-65% stake in its parent company, Trump Media.
