Kenya United Generation Party: A New Voice for A New Era Unveiled Ahead of 2027 Elections

A new political movement is taking shape in Kenya’s evolving democratic landscape following the unveiling of the Kenya United Generation Party (KUG), a youth-driven outfit positioning itself as a fresh alternative ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The party, which has been undergoing the formal registration process with the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties, is built on a platform that emphasizes inclusivity, economic empowerment, and generational leadership.

Its founders say the initiative is designed to give a stronger political voice to young people, who make up the majority of Kenya’s population but have historically remained underrepresented in decision-making spaces.

Speaking during the party’s unveiling, organizers described KUG as a “movement of the present and the future,” aimed at bridging the gap between leadership and the everyday struggles of ordinary citizens.

They highlighted key priorities including job creation, digital innovation, education reform, and transparent governance.

Unlike traditional political parties often anchored around established figures, KUG is positioning itself as a grassroots-driven formation.

Its early messaging has focused on mobilizing Gen Z and millennial voters through digital platforms and community-based engagement, reflecting a shift in how political organizing is evolving in Kenya.

At its core, Kenya United Generation stands for the belief that every citizen deserves equal access to opportunity.

This includes quality education regardless of background, fair employment based on merit, accessible healthcare, and a governance system that listens and responds to all voices, not just a select few.

It is envisioned as a unifying political movement that brings together all citizens, bridging the wisdom of older generations with the energy and innovation of the youth.

It emphasizes inclusivity by honoring Kenya’s rich cultural diversity, ensuring that every community, language, and tradition has a voice in shaping the nation’s future.

Political analysts note that the emergence of new parties like KUG signals growing dissatisfaction among younger voters with conventional political structures.

While challenges undoubtedly lie ahead, Kenya United Generation is entering the political space with a clear vision and a growing base of supporters who believe change is possible.

With the 2027 elections on the horizon, such movements could play a pivotal role in reshaping alliances and influencing national discourse.

As the country looks toward 2027, all eyes will be on whether KUG can translate its youthful energy and bold vision into tangible political influence.

Senate Fines CS Lee Kinyanjui Ksh 500k for Snubbing Summons

The Senate has penalized Trade Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui with a Ksh500,000 fine after he failed to appear before a parliamentary committee as required.

The decision was made by the Senate Standing Committee on Trade, Industrialization and Tourism, which had summoned the CS to present a detailed progress report on the rollout of County Aggregated Industrial Parks (CAIPs) nationwide.

Committee members, led by Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana, stressed the importance of accountability, arguing that officials in the Executive must treat parliamentary summons with seriousness.

Lawmakers also raised concerns about the implementation of the industrial parks, pointing to discrepancies between funds released and actual work completed on the ground.

Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago noted that oversight visits revealed troubling trends, where counties that had received up to 80 percent of allocated funds had only completed between 10 and 20 percent of the projects.

Further concerns were raised over some county governments allegedly spending national government allocations without contributing their agreed share of funding, contrary to established guidelines.

Senators emphasized that strict adherence to standards is essential in the establishment and operation of the industrial parks, noting that this would ensure quality production, eliminate inefficiencies, and protect public interests.

Previously, the committee had asked the Ministry to submit a comprehensive report covering feasibility studies, Environmental Impact Assessments, governance structures, and operational plans for the CAIPs.

It also sought clarification on whether counties had opened special purpose accounts at the Central Bank to manage both national and county contributions.

Following his absence, Kinyanjui has now been directed to appear before the committee on May 14.

Education PS Bitok Increases Capitation to Schools After Ksh95 Uproar

Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok, on Tuesday, May 5, announced that the government will increase capitation to public primary schools.

Bitok revealed that President William Ruto directed the annual capitation per pupil be raised from Ksh1,420 to Ksh2,340.

The PS disclosed that the new directive would take effect at the beginning of the 2026/27 Financial Year.

“The President directed that we increase capitation from Ksh1420 to Ksh2340, starting the next financial year, and we are going to implement that directive to the latter,” he stated.

Bitok confirmed that the capitation for Term Two had already been disbursed to schools and disclosed that the government had addressed the impediments to timely payment to schools.

“For a long time, schools received capitation in the middle or towards the end of the term, but for the last two terms and going forward, capitations will be going to schools at least three days before they open,” the PS added.

Meanwhile, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba warned Senior Secondary School Principals against increasing school fees without approval from the Ministry.

CS Ogamba stated that a joint team from the Ministry and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) had been deployed in the field to weed out heads of schools illegally raising fees.

He insisted that all fees should follow the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Education as stipulated in the Basic Education Act. Any deviation would warrant disciplinary action.

“The increment of school fees and addition of extra levies is outlawed by the Ministry because we have guidelines and circulars on what the school fees are for senior schools and boarding institutions.”

“We have instructed our county and subcounty education officers from the ministry and TSC to ensure all institutions are adhering to the circulars. Where they find that a principal is not adhering, they have recommendations to make and thereafter, the normal disciplinary process under the law will follow,” Ogamba warned.

The CS sentiments came after parents complained that some Senior Secondary Schools had increased school fees without consulting them.

Ogamba has summoned the Chief Principal of the Alliance Girls’ High School and instituted disciplinary action against her after she increased fees at the institution.

Mbappe’s Camp Speaks Out Amid Real Madrid Squad Friction

Kylian Mbappe has responded to growing criticism surrounding his recent trip to Italy during his injury recovery period at Real Madrid, insisting that the backlash has been exaggerated and misinterpreted.

The French forward came under scrutiny after reports emerged that he travelled to Italy with his partner Ester Expósito last week, at a time when his teammates were preparing for a La Liga fixture against RCD Espanyol.

In response to the criticism from fans and sections of the Spanish media, Mbappé’s camp has moved to clarify the situation, stating that his recovery process is being strictly managed and supervised by the club.

“Part of the criticisms are based on an overinterpretation of elements related to a recovery period strictly supervised by the club,” the statement read, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

The statement further stressed that the forward remains fully committed to Real Madrid and continues to work diligently for the team.

“This is not corresponding to the reality of the commitment and the work that Kylian does daily for the good of the team,” it further added.

The situation comes amid a tense period at Real Madrid following their exit from the UEFA Champions League, which has intensified scrutiny on senior players and squad dynamics.

Reports from Spain suggest that internal frustration has been building within the dressing room, although the club has not officially commented on any unrest.

Despite the off-field noise, Real Madrid are now focused on regrouping ahead of a crucial run of fixtures, including the highly anticipated El Clásico against FC Barcelona.

The club is expected to prioritise stability and unity as they look to finish the season strongly in both domestic and European competitions.

Arsenal fans wake up Atletico Madrid players with 1.30am fireworks show before clash

Arsenal fans set off fireworks outside Atlético Madrid’s London hotel in the early hours of Tuesday morning in an attempt to disrupt the Spanish side’s preparations for their Champions League semi-final.

Atlético’s hotel in Shoreditch was targeted at around 1.30am and 2am in two separate fireworks displays.

According to Spanish media, Atlético have swiftly made their displeasure known to governing body Uefa.

The enthusiasm of Arsenal supporters for the semi-final second leg is likely to have grown on Monday night after Manchester City’s draw with Everton handed the advantage to Mikel Arteta’s team in the Premier League title race.

Atlético had stayed in a different London hotel when they were defeated 4-0 by Arsenal in October, with Spanish reports saying manager Diego Simeone wanted to make a change for superstitious reasons ahead of his team’s return to the Emirates Stadium.

Asked on Monday night why he had switched hotels, Simeone joked: “We are doing better than in October, and the hotel was cheaper. That’s why we changed.”

Atlético’s preparations for the match in October were also disrupted, as they were enraged by a hot-water shortage at the Emirates Stadium the day before the game.

Atletico complained to Arsenal about the issue, which meant their players were not able to shower in the away dressing room Atlético their training session at the stadium.

The tie is finely balanced after Wednesday’s 1-1 draw in Madrid, and Arsenal have been boosted by the return to fitness of key players Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz. Both Odegaard and Havertz were absent from Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Fulham.

Arsenal and Atlético are the two teams who have played the most European Cup or Champions League matches without winning the competition. The winner of Tuesday’s semi-final will face either Paris St-Germain or Bayern Munich in the final in Budapest.

Kitui County Assembly Condemns Kitui Banditry Attack, Calls For Swift Security Action

The County Assembly of Kitui today resumed sittings, with the Hon. Speaker Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya issuing a formal communication on the recent banditry attack in Kitui County.

The House was informed of a tragic incident that took place on Saturday, 25th April, 2026 in Kwa Kamari, Tseikuru Ward, Mwingi North Sub-County, where seven innocent lives were lost following an attack by suspected camel herders.

The Hon. Speaker strongly condemned the barbaric act and conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

The Speaker called upon the national government under the leadership of H.E president Dr. William Ruto to ensure impartial investigations and have all perpetrators are apprehended and prosecuted, enhance security presence at newly constructed Kwa Kamari police post, implement sustainable and lasting solutions to the recurring conflict including peace structured peace building initiatives among other measures to restore peace in Kitui County. Hon. Katisya also urged our communities to restrain from retaliatory violence which will escalate the situation rather than mitigate.

Hon. Members who contributed to the statement unanimously denounced the attack, terming it a grave threat to peace and security. The Assembly resolved to urge the National Government, particularly agencies responsible for national security, to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves, ensure swift investigations, and bring all perpetrators to justice.

Members further called for decisive action against incitement, citing recent remarks by Aden Duale, which were described as provocative and likely to undermine security efforts in the region.

The House also emphasized the urgent need to enhance security along Kitui’s border with Tana River County, noting that recurrent conflicts with camel herders have posed a persistent challenge to local communities.

The Assembly observed that the attack has led to significant loss of life, disruption of business activities, including the blocking of the Mwingi–Garissa highway, incidents of looting, and heightened fear among residents.

Hon. Members reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of Kitui residents and called for sustained peace-building interventions to restore stability in the affected areas.

Pursuant to Standing Order No. 195(5) of the Kitui County Assembly, the Speaker directed the County Assembly Committee on Tourism and Natural Resources to undertake a comprehensive oversight exercise on the Mwingi North Game Reserve and the South Kitui Game Reserve, with a view to identifying, interrogating, and addressing any existing security threats, criminal hideouts, and illegal activities that may be facilitating banditry within these areas.

Further, he issued a directive to the Committee on Administration and Coordination of County Affairs to oversight all police stations constructed by the County Government of Kitui with a view of ascertaining their operational status, adequacy of staffing, and overall effectiveness in enhancing security within the affected regions.

Both Committees are hereby required to table their reports before this House as soon as practicable, together with actionable recommendations.

Stricken Chelsea star Jesse Derry, 18, shares update after being taken to hospital following sickening clash of heads

Jesse Derry has given Chelsea fans a welcome update after being taken to hospital following a hideous head clash against Nottingham Forest

Derry, 18, was given his Premier League debut in the 3-1 home defeat by interim boss Callum McFarlane.

But his afternoon ended in brutal fashion shortly before half-time. In contesting a ball in the air with Forest defender Zach Abbott, Derry was knocked unconscious and there was a nine-minute delay while medical staff treated him.

Derry was then taken off the pitch on a stretcher and driven to St Mary’s hospital in distressing scenes.

Son of former Premier League midfielder, Shaun, Jesse has now appeared to confirm everything is on the mend.

On X he wrote: ‘A dream come true to start at Stamford Bridge for my Premier League debut.

‘I’d like to thank all the Chelsea medical staff, everyone at St Mary’s Hospital, my team-mates, and all the fans for their great support.

‘I can’t wait to be back playing in front of everyone very soon.’

He accompanied the message with four pictures of him during the game, in which he’d acquitted himself well before the injury.

Chelsea were given a penalty for the challenge on Derry but Cole Palmer’s spot kick was saved by Matz Sels.

Given the nature of the injury and fact he was given oxygen on the pitch, Derry’s team-mates, friends and family will be hugely relieved that there is no lasting damage.

Derry was not the only unfortunate recipient of a head injury during the game. Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White lasted just 20 minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute.

He sustained a bloody head after colliding with Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez after challenging for an aerial ball.

Both players immediately crumpled to the floor and needed urgent medical treatment with their heads split open.

After five minutes of medical care, both players left the field with their heads bandaged as Chris Wood replaced Gibbs-White and Filip Jorgensen doing likewise for Sanchez.

After the match, Gibbs-White took to Instagram to show off his wound – which detailed a lengthy number of stitches from his nose to above his left eyebrow.

As well as that injury, his nose was swollen with a steroplast up his right nostril.

Captioning his picture, which saw him give a thumbs up, the England international wrote: ‘Thanks for the messages. What a win, congrats T [Taiwo Awoniyi].’

Shortly after Gibbs White’s Instagram story, Sanchez took to the same platform to show his injury.

The Spain international had stitches applied to the top of his forehead and shared a picture of that, alongside a caption: ‘Seen that you came out worst [sic] than me, hope you are OK big man @morgangibbswhite.’

Gold Fraud Suspects Charged Over 1M USD

By Andrew Kariuki

Eric Kalala Mukendi, Emmanuel Wafula Othatcher, Willy Kiplimo Meto, Ronald Osonga Khejiri and David Onyango Ochanda are among several suspects charged in a gold fraud case involving USD 1,388,262.76 allegedly obtained from a complainant.

The court heard that the accused persons are facing charges of conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor under Section 394 of the Penal Code, with the alleged offence said to have taken place in Nairobi.

According to the charge sheet, the suspects are accused of falsely claiming they were in a position to facilitate the sale of 3,370 kilograms of gold to the complainant, Tanner Caldwell Cook, a representation prosecutors say was knowingly false.

When the matter came up in court before Magistrate Caroline Mugo, she directed that the bond and bail terms earlier granted to the accused persons will remain in force, allowing them to remain out of custody under the same conditions.

The case has now been scheduled for hearing on the 10th and 11th, when the court is expected to proceed with the taking of evidence.

Crypto Currency Trader Dickson Ndege Nyakango Detained for 7 Days Over Alleged Ksh 58 Million Fraud Scheme

By Andrew Kariuki

Crypto trader Dickson Ndege Nyakango has been detained for seven days by the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi as detectives continue investigations into an alleged cryptocurrency investment fraud involving more than Ksh 58 million.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), through its Capital Markets Fraud Investigation Unit, told the court that Nyakango is a key suspect in an alleged scheme involving the operation of an unlicensed collective investment platform, contrary to the Capital Markets Act and conspiracy to defraud.

According to investigators, the case stems from complaints lodged by Kestrel Capital (EA) Ltd, a licensed stockbroker, which flagged an application listed as KCLNL on Google Play and Apple App Store.

The app allegedly advertised an artificial intelligence-powered investment fund purportedly linked to Kestrel Capital in partnership with a separate entity, Nathaniel Capital Partners Limited.

Detectives told the court that Kestrel Capital has no association with the said entity or the investment platform, raising concerns of impersonation and fraudulent misrepresentation to the public.

The court heard that the scheme allegedly promised unusually high daily returns of up to 7% , luring unsuspecting investors into joining WhatsApp groups where they were directed to deposit funds through bank accounts, paybill numbers and mobile payment channels.

Preliminary investigations indicate that funds were channelled into multiple bank accounts, including those linked to Nyakango.

One of the accounts is reported to have received approximately Ksh 33.67 million between April 8 and April 29, 2026.

Investigators further told the court that the suspect was arrested on May 4, 2026, at an I&M Bank branch along Kenyatta Avenue while attempting to withdraw funds from one of the accounts under investigation.

The prosecution argued that the matter is complex, involving numerous victims, multiple bank accounts and digital platforms and requires additional time to record statements, analyse financial trails and identify other possible accomplices.

Detectives also raised concerns that releasing the suspect at this stage could jeopardize investigations, with fears that he may interfere with evidence, access unfrozen accounts, or continue operating related platforms, including another app identified as GSIWEA.

The court was further informed that Nyakango has no known fixed place of residence, increasing the risk of absconding if released.

In granting the custodial order, the court allowed detectives to hold the suspect at Kilimani Police Station for seven days to complete investigations.

The matter will be mentioned later this month to confirm compliance and provide an update on the progress of investigations.
