Merishaw School clarifies viral video showing young students being bullied

Merishaw School has issued a statement addressing a video circulating on social media that allegedly shows a bullying incident at the institution.

In the statement on Monday, March 16, the school explained the origin of the video and distanced the current school environment from the incident shown.

“It has come to our attention that an old video is circulating on social media claiming incidents at our school. We want to make it absolutely clear that the video is old and does not reflect the current environment at our school,” the statement read.

The school also addressed the disciplinary action that was taken against the students involved at the time of the incident.

“The students involved were fully disciplined and expelled in line with our school policies. Our school does not tolerate bullying in any form; every student is safe, respected, and protected while on campus,” the statement added.

Merishaw School further outlined measures it says are in place to safeguard the welfare of its students and prevent similar incidents.

“We have robust measures in place to ensure the well-being and security of all students, including regular staff training, surveillance, and a proactive reporting system,” the statement continued.

The institution concluded by reiterating its commitment to safety, discipline, and maintaining a supportive learning environment.

“We are proud of our school community, our students, and our staff. Safety, discipline, and excellence remain our top priorities. We thank all parents, guardians, and stakeholders for trusting us to provide a safe and nurturing environment,” the statement concluded.

State House explains Ruto’s involvement in the Nairobi Hospital saga

State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed, on Monday, March 16, admitted that President William Ruto was involved in the Nairobi Hospital saga.

In a statement to the public, Mohamed intimated that the President was approached by stakeholders and patients, who raised concerns about the running of the hospital.

He explained that the parties approached him because he is the current patron of the Kenya Hospital Association, a position he has held since 2023.

“It is therefore in both his capacity as Patron of the Association and as President of the Republic of Kenya that President Ruto was briefed and appealed to by concerned stakeholders regarding the situation facing Nairobi Hospital,” the statement read in part.

Some of the concerns raised by the stakeholders include disputes over the KHA membership and board elections, conflict of interest and allegations of mismanagement, leadership challenges and internal wrangles.

The stakeholders also wanted the ineffective dispute resolution and mounting litigation against the hospital to be addressed.

The Spokesperson explained that the arrests of top hospital members were not a single event but one that came after several processes which followed the law.

“Over the past year, the Chief of Staff Felix Kosgei convened multiple consultative meetings with various stakeholders, including members of the board, doctors and other concerned parties, to facilitate dialogue and encourage resolution of the disputes affecting the institution,” he wrote.

Mohamed explained that the engagements resulted in the reconstitution of the Board, and a five-point reform agenda was agreed upon.

Part of the agenda was the appointment of an independent audit firm to conduct a forensic audit into financial concerns raised by the stakeholders.

The Spokesperson revealed that the Attorney General appointed inspectors to investigate the affairs of the KHA, after which a report was placed on her desk.

“The President directed the timely conclusion and implementation of the pending report to safeguard the interests of patients, staff, medical professionals, and employees,” the statement read in part.

He added that it was in the national interest that the current governance, financial and operational challenges affecting KHA are resolved through lawful, transparent and sustainable processes.

Earlier Board Chair Dr Job Owaka was charged with failing to lodge the company’s 2022 and 2023 financial statements with the Registrar.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) charged Chris Bichange, Munga Nyamaratandi and Samson Mbuthia Kinyanjui, who are accused of receiving millions of shillings from an insurance agency contracted by the hospital’s governing association.

Chris Bitange also faces another charge of accepting a benefit from a third-party contrary to Section 147(1) (a) as read with Section 147 (5) of the Companies Act.

Capacity Building On Entrepreneurship Skills, Sensitization On Formalization And Linkage To Finance

The MSEA Kitui Office, in collaboration with the KNCCI–Kitui Chapter under the Jiinue Growth Program, conducted two half-day training sessions for women- and youth-owned Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) in Kitui Central.

The training focused on equipping participants with entrepreneurship and e-commerce skills to strengthen their business capacity and improve market access.

During the sessions, MSEA sensitized participants on the importance of business formalization, particularly through group and association registration, as a pathway to accessing government and partner support programs.

In addition, key government initiatives, including the NYOTA and KJET project, were highlighted to create awareness of opportunities available to MSEs.

Upon successful completion of the training, participating youth were mapped under the 4G Capital financing framework to facilitate access to credit for business growth.

Gov’t Warns Against Company Claiming to Offer Affordable Housing Units

The Affordable Housing Board has issued a warning over a company allegedly claiming to offer housing units under the government-backed affordable housing programme.

In a statement on Tuesday, March 17, the board raised concern about activities linked to a firm identified as Brightwood Apartments Company, which is reportedly presenting itself as a facilitator of housing units under the government initiative.

“It has come to our attention that Brightwood Apartments Company is reportedly facilitating affordable housing units on behalf of the Affordable Housing Board and the Boma Yangu Affordable Housing Program,” the statement read.

The board clarified that the company has no official mandate to operate under the programme, urging Kenyans to remain cautious and verify information through legitimate channels.

“Kindly note that the said company is not authorized to facilitate or offer housing units under the program. Members of the public are therefore advised not to make any payments or share personal information in response to such claims,” the statement added.

The board further dismissed any promotional materials or communications linking the company to the housing initiative as misleading and illegitimate.

“Any advertisement or communication suggesting that Brightwood Apartments Company is offering, facilitating, or selling houses under the Boma Yangu program is false and unauthorized,” the statement concluded.

Nairobi Water Confirms Resumption of Supply to 6 Estates

The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company has announced the completion of major repair works on a transmission pipeline that had been damaged by recent floods.

In an update on Monday, March 16, the company said the damaged pipeline along Outering Road had been fully restored, allowing water supply to resume in several affected estates across the city.

“We are pleased to announce that the major transmission pipeline along Outering Road, which was damaged by recent floods, has now been fully repaired and restored,” the notice read.

Nairobi Water also indicated that water supply had already resumed in several estates that had experienced disruptions due to the damage.

“Water supply as per our distribution schedule has resumed to all previously affected areas, including Buruburu (Phases 1 & 2), Kariobangi South & North, Dandora, parts of Mathare, and surrounding estates,” the notice added.

Nairobi Water further noted that its technical teams were continuing with additional repair works in other areas that are still experiencing supply challenges.

MP Koimburi wants MPs to speak mother tongue in Parliament debates

Juja MP George Koimburi has announced plans to table a Motion in the National Assembly seeking to allow lawmakers to debate in their respective mother tongues at designated times each week.

Speaking in his constituency, Koimburi said the proposal aims to enhance representation and cultural inclusivity by giving lawmakers an opportunity to communicate directly in the languages of the communities they serve.

He suggested that MPs be allocated at least two hours every week to contribute to parliamentary debates in their native languages.

“I want to speak Kikuyu during session so that my community can see they have been represented well and they can also be respected,” Koimburi said.

The legislator argued that there is nothing wrong with using indigenous languages in Parliament, noting that such a move would strengthen the connection between elected leaders and their constituents.

“We want the proposal to pass because it is not wrong to speak mother tongue even during parliamentary session or when we are out there with the people,” he added.

Koimburi spoke after the release of 22 members of the Mihiriga Kenda Muiyuru group who had been held for three days at Kibii Police Station in Juja.

The members had been accused of engaging in illegal activities, including female genital mutilation (FGM), but the claims were not substantiated, and they were released on free bond without being produced in court.

The MP criticised the arrests, saying the group’s rights to worship and practise culture had been violated.

He said the group is legally registered and should not be harassed for observing Agikuyu traditions.

Koimburi said he will pursue the proposed parliamentary changes as part of a broader push for cultural recognition in Parliament

Endeni Gym – President Ruto Hits Back at Gachagua After He Trolled Him Over Weight Loss

President William Ruto has hit back at Rigathi Gachagua after he took a swipe at him over sudden weight loss.

Speaking on Tuesday, March 17, in Cheptais, Mt Elgon, President Ruto countered the former Deputy President, advising him to go to the gym to stay fit.

The Head of State suggested that Gachagua has a big belly and implied that being unfit causes him to fall asleep during meetings.

“I want to ask these people to go to the gym. Stop eating too much, your stomach will burst. You even fall asleep during meetings,” said Ruto.

The President also slammed the united opposition, saying they are focused on him instead of telling Kenyans their agenda.

“You people in the opposition, you claim your only agenda is William Ruto, surely? If you want us to go there, you will regret it, “Ruto stated.

On Monday, March 16, Gachagua trolled President Ruto, claiming that he has lost weight because the opposition was giving him sleepless nights.

The former Deputy President teased that the opposition has managed to get into the President’s psyche with the constant criticism of the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“The good thing is that even with all that money, he does not sleep. You can even see how much weight he has lost. He has billions but cannot get rest,” Gachagua ridiculed.

The DCP party leader revealed that there are civil servants and public officers who were feeding the opposition with information to aid them with their watchdog role.

“I want to thank civil servants and public officials who are giving us the intel on things to expose; that will annoy him,” he stated.

Further, Gachagua confirmed his commitment to making Ruto a one-term president and reassured that the opposition was united to unseat him in the 2027 general election.
