West Ham Target Gallagher ‘Still In Chelsea Plans’

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino says Conor Gallagher is still in his plans after the club rejected a reported £40m bid from West Ham.

The England midfielder, 23, has two years left on his contract and is on the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.

He made his senior Chelsea debut last season and went on to score three goals in 45 appearances.

“At the moment I am happy with him and his performance,” Pochettino said.

Gallagher, a Chelsea academy graduate, was named Crystal Palace’s player of the season at the end of a loan spell there in 2021-22.

He made his England debut in November 2021, and has won seven caps.

“The players that are here on the tour are in our plan,” Pochettino said.

“Conor is in our plan. I was talking with him the first day that he arrived that he’s in our plans.

“At the moment, there’s nothing to say.”

Chelsea’s ownership group has been trying to avoid letting players enter the last two years of their contracts, a situation that played out with Mason Mount’s £55m move to Manchester United.

Chelsea like Gallagher but accept there is a chance he could leave.

Wrexham Beat Man Utd But Striker Mullin Injured

Wrexham beat 10-man Manchester United 3-1 but the newly promoted League Two club’s victory was overshadowed by an injury to talisman Paul Mullin.

Mullin, 28, suffered a punctured lung in a collision with goalkeeper Nathan Bishop, part of a United side mostly comprised of Under-21 players.

Goals from Elliot Lee, Aaron Hayden and Sam Dalby sealed victory for Wrexham.

Marc Jurado scored in first-half injury time for United, who had Dan Gore, 18, sent-off shortly after the restart.

Ryan Reynolds was unable to attend but Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney was present as Phil Parkinson’s side earned a memorable win in front of a sold-out 34,248 crowd at Snapdragon Stadium in California.

United boss Erik ten Hag, whose senior players have travelled on to Texas before tomorrow’s match against Real Madrid, watched his youthful side’s performance from the bench.

The Premier League club’s starting line-up also featured the experienced Jonny Evans, who has returned on a short-term deal after leaving Leicester City at the end of last season.

Striker Mullin, who scored 46 goals in all competitions as Wrexham ended a 15-year absence from the football league last season, required lengthy treatment before walking off the field with an oxygen mask around his neck early in the first half.

Lee opened the scoring after 29 minutes and Hayden headed in a second seven minutes later – but 19-year-old Spaniard Jurado’s side-footed finish halved the deficit.

United’s Gore was dismissed after receiving a straight red for a tackle on Andy Cannon early in the second half, before Dalby headed in Wrexham’s third from close range.

Spurs Owner Charged Over Alleged Insider Trading

Tottenham Hotspur owner Joe Lewis has been charged with “orchestrating a brazen insider trader scheme”, US attorney Damian Williams has said.

Mr Williams used a video announcement to accuse the British billionaire of using inside information to “shower gifts on his friends and lovers”.

Mr Lewis “has been indicted and will face justice” in the Southern District of New York (SDNY), Mr Williams said.

A lawyer for Mr Lewis said charging him was an “egregious error in judgement”.

Lawyer David Zornow added that the 86-year-old had come to the US voluntarily to defend himself against the “ill-conceived charges”.

A Tottenham Hotspur spokesperson said in a statement: “This is a legal matter unconnected with the club and as such we have no comment.”

Allegations against Mr Lewis were laid out in a video statement posted to Mr Williams’ Twitter. A formal written statement, known as an indictment, is yet to be released.

“We allege that, for years, Joe Lewis abused his access to corporate board rooms and repeatedly provided inside information to his romantic partners, his personal assistants, his private pilots, and his friends,” Mr Williams said in the video.

Mr Williams, the chief federal law enforcement officer for the SDNY, alleged that Mr Lewis’s acquaintances used that information to make millions of dollars in the stock market.

“Thanks to [Mr] Lewis, those bets were a sure thing,” he claimed.

Mr Lewis is reported to be one of Britain’s richest men. He owns hundreds of assets, including Premier League London club Tottenham Hotspur which he bought from Sir Alan Sugar in 2001 for £22m.

He also owns a stake in UK pub chain Mitchells & Butlers. He was ranked 39th in the 2023 Sunday Times Rich List, with an estimated worth of more than £5bn.

Nottingham Forest Sign Anthony Elanga From Man Utd

Swedish international forward Anthony Elanga has signed for Nottingham Forest from Manchester United on a five-year permanent deal.

Elanga arrives in Nottingham for a fee believed to be in the region of £15 million.

“What a privilege to sign for this historic football club! I’m honestly so happy and excited to be here, I haven’t stopped smiling! Thank you for the amazing welcome”, the player wrote on Twitter, which is being rebranded as ‘X’, following his transfer to the two-time European Cup winners.

The 21-year-old made 55 appearances for Manchester United in all competitions, scoring four goals but never became a first-team regular.

He joined the club’s academy aged 12 and made his senior debut in 2021.

In an announcement on Tuesday, United paid tribute to Elanga: “Anthony has been a fine role model and example for other members of the Academy, and leaves with our sincere best wishes for the future”.

A native of Malmo, the versatile winger has so far scored three goals and earned 12 caps for the Swedish national team.

Nottingham Forest are seeking to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Premier League season, after narrowly avoiding relegation last term.

Elanga joins new recruit Ola Aina, whose arrival at the City Ground was announced last weekend. The Nigerian defender signed after his contract with Torino expired.

PSG Draw With Ronaldo’s Al Nassr In Japan Friendly

Japanese fans flocked to stadiums to see Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar strut their stuff in a series of friendlies for PSG last year, but none of that trio was on show this time around.

Messi has departed for Major League Soccer side Inter Miami and Neymar has been out with a knee injury since February and only just returned to full training.

Mbappe was sensationally left out of the squad on the eve of PSG’s departure for Asia, with his future at the club in doubt.

Carlos Soler tried an ambitious free-kick from distance in just the second minute in Osaka, but Al Nassr goalkeeper Nawaf Alaqidi was equal to the attempt.

Noha Lemina broke in behind for PSG 20 minutes later but saw his effort skew wide of the near post.

The biggest reactions from the relatively modest crowd of 25 432 in the first half were reserved for a couple of Ronaldo efforts.

The first saw him denied from six yards by Gianluigi Donnarumma before an acrobatic overhead kick went wide of the target – although it wouldn’t have counted because he was offside.

The second half was broken up by a slew of substitutions by both sides, with Ronaldo departing after 66 minutes.

Neither team was able to make a breakthrough, although PSG youngster Ilyes Housni looked lively after coming on and went close on a couple of occasions.

PSG will next play Cerezo Osaka on Friday, before travelling to Tokyo to take on Inter Milan.

Al Nassr will face Inter in Osaka on Thursday.

Messi Scores Twice As Miami Crush Atlanta

Lionel Messi’s instant impact in the United States continued on Tuesday as he scored twice in Inter Miami’s 4-0 victory over Atlanta United, firing his team into the knockout rounds of the Leagues Cup.

The Argentine World Cup-winner was handed his first start for his new club after coming off the bench and grabbing a 94th-minute winner in Friday’s game against Mexican club Cruz Azul.

In his first game against a Major League Soccer club, Messi was simply too much for Atlanta to cope with and he struck up a fruitful understanding with Finnish winger Robert Taylor, who helped himself to Miami’s other two goals.

The Leagues Cup is a tournament which brings together all the top-flight teams from MLS and Mexico’s Liga MX and with two wins Miami top their group and with their new arrival looking settled so quickly, they will surely believe they can get their first-ever trophy.

Atlanta fatally began the game playing a high-line, hoping to compress the space for Messi, but the approach simply allowed Miami to pick their moments to go over the top and exploit the space behind.

It was via such a route that Messi put the home side ahead in the eighth minute when he was sent free by a ball over the top from his former Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquets.

Messi burst into the box and although his low shot struck the post, he made no mistake with the rebound, side-footing into the goal.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner then doubled the advantage in the 22nd minute, the first of three goals that saw him combine with Finnish winger Robert Taylor.

Messi ran at the back-pedalling Atlanta defence before switching to Taylor who slid the ball back into the path of the 36-year-old who slotted home.

Another Busquets ball over the top found Messi but the off-side flag was raised after he shot straight at Atlanta keeper Brad Guzan.

Miami made it 3-0, a minute before the interval, when Messi fed Benjamin Cremaschi, who cleverly flicked the ball to Taylor who defied the tight angle with a fierce blast.

Eight minutes after halftime, Atlanta were caught on the break when a corner was cleared to Messi, who ran from deep in his own half before feeding Taylor to his left who drilled in a low shot off the inside of the far post.

The margin of victory allowed Miami’s Argentine head coach Gerardo Martino to rest Busquets and Messi with the latter substituted in the 78th minute.

Messi’s Argentina teammate Thiago Almada had a chance for a consolation for Atlanta but his penalty was well saved by Miami keeper Drew Callender.

LIBERATED

Miami, bottom of the MLS standings, had not won for 11 league games prior to Messi’s arrival, but look utterly transformed by his impact, together with Busquets.

“Their arrival has given the players a lot of confidence,” said Martino, who ten years ago coached the pair at Barcelona.

“The players feel more supported, they feel that the responsibility is carried by the great players and so they feel more liberated to play,” he added.

Martino, who also coached Messi with the Argentine national team, said his World Cup triumph last season had given him a new lease of life.

“He has taken a huge weight off his shoulders with the Argentine national team. You can see it in everything, in his day-to-day life, in his statements, in the way he approaches the games. Leo is liberated and we can expect more of this type of performance,” he added.

Atlanta were MLS champions in 2018 under Martino but their current boss, Gonzalo Pineda said they had been outclassed.

“They were the better team…at key moments they did not forgive. Against players like Messi you can’t make mistakes and we made them in the first, second and fourth goals,” he said.

Taylor, who exploited perfectly the space created for him by Messi, deservedly received his own ovation as he left the field.

“Every time Leo has the ball we have a few players running in behind and that creates loads of space for everyone else,” Taylor said.

“I mean, he’s the best player in the world. This is what he does – he scores two goals, he scored last game, gets another assist. It’s a dream come true to play with him,” he added.

Canada Floods: Two Bodies Of Children Found Dead IN Nova Scotia

The bodies of two children missing for three days after devastating floods in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia have been found by police.

The children were traveling in a car with three others when the vehicle became submerged over the weekend.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said they recovered the bodies of one of the missing children on Tuesday morning, around 10:45 local time (14:45 BST).

The remains of the second child were found on Monday. Police did not confirm the ages of the children or the names of those dead and missing.

Migori Employee: I Refused To Sign ‘Fake Statements’ In Obado Case

An employee of Migori County government narrated before Milimani High Court Judge, Justice Cecilia Githua how police officers harassed and pressured him to sign statements placing him at the scene where Sharon Otieno was found murdered.

Grado Ochola, who presently works at the county’s livestock department, told Justice Cecilia Githua that despite being coerced, he refused to sign the documents.

According to the witness, some of the documents police officers were forcing him to sign read that “I was at Kodero forest on September 3, 2018, with this car and Owade bridge.”

Former Migori Governor Okoth Obado, his personal assistant Micheal Oyamo, and clerk Caspal Obiero are on trial for the murder of Sharon and her unborn baby.

The particulars of the crime indicate that the three, along with others not yet in court, murdered Sharon and her unborn bay on September 3-4, 2018, in Owade, Rachuonyo, Homa Bay county.

Sharon had seven stab wounds and two slash wounds at the time of her death. The initial stab wound was so deep that it went all the way through her womb. This resulted in the unborn child’s death. The pregnancy was 28 weeks old.

Ochola, also a distant relative of Obado, said he had been arrested over the murder of Sharon and was held for 10 days as the matter was being investigated.

The officers he said, took him round from one station to another. It started from Migori, to Oyugi’s, then Ahero with the journey ending at Muthaiga police station. For 10 days he declined to cede to the investigators demands by refusing to sign a statement that had details strange to him.

“When they arrested me they told me the car I hired was used by the killers in eliminating Sharon. It dropped the killers from Migori to Rongo,” said the witness.

LeBron James’ Son, Bronny, Suffers Cardiac Arrest During Workout at USC

LeBron James’ son Bronny suffered cardiac arrest during a basketball workout at the University of Southern California Monday.

The 18-year-old athlete was taken to the hospital where he was treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) before being released to general care, a spokesperson for the James family told TMZ Tuesday.

“Yesterday while practicing Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest. Medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital. He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU,” the statement began.

“We ask for respect and privacy for the James family and we will update media when there is more information.”

The statement concluded with LeBron and his wife Savannah, thanking USC medical and athletic staff for their “incredible work and dedication” to the safety of their athletes.

Sources told the outlet that a call was made to 911 from the school’s Galen Center, which is where the team plays and practices. The patient, who was later confirmed to be Bronny, was rushed to the hospital via ambulance that was all lights and sirens.

Bronny recently committed to USC and is expected to follow in his famed father’s footsteps and enter the NBA.

The Los Angeles Lakers legend, 38, previously has expressed his desire to play alongside Bronny in the pros, saying he’d do “whatever it takes” to have at least one season together.

“My last year will be with my son. Wherever Bronny’s at, that’s where I’ll be,” LeBron told The Athletic in February 2022.

“I would do whatever it takes to play with my son for one year. It’s not about the money at that point.”
