A multi-agency security operation in Msambweni Sub-County, Kwale County, struck a blow against the notorious Panga Boys gang today, nabbing nine suspects in an intelligence-led raid.
The arrests mark a significant step in the ongoing battle to dismantle machete-wielding gangs terrorizing the Coast region.
During the operation, authorities recovered a chilling haul: 11 machetes, 5 slashers, 1 hacksaw, 4 knives, 26 sachets of cannabis sativa, 1 toy gun, and a pair of scissors.
The suspects, now in custody, await processing and arraignment as police dig deeper into their criminal network. This bust follows a string of arrests in Kwale, with 145 gang members nabbed so far, 85 already charged with crimes like unlawful assembly.
The National Police Service (NPS) hailed the operation as a win for public safety, urging locals to share tips to keep the momentum going.
“We’re committed to protecting lives and property—cooperation is key,” an NPS spokesperson said.
The Panga Boys have long plagued Msambweni, looting businesses and stabbing residents.
With tourism at stake, this crackdown signals a no-nonsense push to restore peace.
