EX- girlfriend to the late gospel hitmaker Dennis Mwangi alias Papa Dennis, has revealed that the award-winning gospel star was battling depression before his untimely death.
The musician fell from an apartment building at Pangani area in Ngara and investigations from the police pointed to suicide.
Martha Wajero said that the deceased wanted to meet her on the night of his death but she couldn’t because she was held up somewhere, a move she now regrets.
“We talked every day and I communicated with Papa on that fateful night and I remember him telling me he was seeing things and people wanting to kill him,” she revealed.
The two had been allies for more than five years and at some point got involved romantically but the relationship ended prematurely.
“We dated at some point but realized we could only become friends and he took me more seriously than just a friend because we worked together a lot,” Wajero added.
Martha wrote a tribute to Papa which said, “You were battling with depression despite me being there. You have always been a shining ster. May you fly with angels. I will always remember you and I will miss you.”
A postmortem done on Monday revealed that he died from a traumatic injury to the brain but it couldn’t tell whether his death was due to suicide.
