Uzalendo News has uncovered a troubling situation at Ruai Girls Secondary, where a group of concerned parents has come forward with serious allegations against the school administration, accusing it of abusive practices and poor management that jeopardize student well-being.
The allegations stem from a letter written by Parents’ Association to Kasarani Member of Parliament Ronald Karauri, outlining what they describe as a “dictatorial” and “arrogant” administration.
The parents express their dissatisfaction with a leadership style they believe undermines students’ rights and compromises their safety.
Heavy Punishment
On July 15, 2024, students at Ruai Girls Secondary staged a protest during the morning assembly, chanting “Principal must go.”
Eyewitnesses report that the protest was triggered by grievances against the current principal’s alleged harsh management style, including name-calling and a prohibition on Muslim students praying on school grounds.
In response, the administration reportedly imposed severe punitive measures, forcing students to endure long hours outside in inclement weather without food.
A particularly shocking incident involved a female student collapsing due to exhaustion after being denied access to food throughout the day.
It wasn’t until late afternoon that the principal, under pressure from a teacher, allegedly allowed students to eat.
Neglect
Parents have also raised alarms about the administration’s handling of health issues. In a heart-wrenching case, a student experiencing medical problems was reportedly ignored for an entire week before her condition—ultimately fatal—was addressed.
“There was no care shown for her complaints until it was too late,” one parent recounted, expressing outrage and sorrow over the loss.
The letter to MP Ronald enumerates a disturbing list of additional issues at the school, including.
The parents have aired out claims of misappropriation of funds, with reports that an alternate pay bill number, diverting money away from school programs.
The school administration has also been accused of dishing out substandard meals to students, which have allegedly contained spoiled food, such as snails in cabbage and undercooked rice.
Physical and Sexual Abuse Claims
Alarming reports of excessive physical punishment doled out by staff, as well as allegations of sexual misconduct involving a non-teaching staff member, who reportedly threatens students who speak out.
Unilateral Decisions
The deputy principal allegedly makes key decisions regarding student discipline—such as suspensions—without consulting the necessary disciplinary committees.
Home science students have found themselves lacking essential materials for practical lessons, as funds raised by parents for necessary supplies seem to vanish. This put the students to an unfair disadvantage, exposing them to poor performance.
Parents voiced their grievances through the letter, revealing a deeper concern for the prevailing atmosphere at the school.
“Our children are treated like prisoners; we cannot even visit them during designated hours,” lamented one parent. “This is not the education we envisioned for them.”
As the community grapples with these allegations, the Parents’ Association is calling for intervention from local authorities to investigate the school’s administration and restore a nurturing environment.
“Our plea is simple: we want a safe space for our children to grow and learn. They deserve an education free from fear and mistreatment,” the letter concluded.
MP Karauri Ronald has yet to publicly respond to the concerns raised, but the pressure is mounting for an urgent review of the situation at Ruai Girls Secondary.
