Parliament Road Remains Blocked Amid Impeachment Motion Against DP Gachagua

Parliament Road in Nairobi remains sealed off as police maintain a strong presence around Parliament Buildings, anticipating a charged impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Helicopters circle overhead, while officers have cordoned off key areas of the capital to prevent potential unrest.

The security measures follow heightened concerns of possible protests linked to the motion.

Nairobi has been tense since activist Morara Kebaso’s arrest on Monday, with fears of further chaos after the June 25 breach of Parliament that saw protesters overrun security.

In Gachagua’s hometown of Karatina, police patrols have also increased amid fears of demonstrations from both pro-DP and anti-government factions.

Tensions continue to rise as MPs prepare for the next steps in the impeachment process.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula is expected to formally notify Parliament of the motion today, although debate will not commence immediately.

The impeachment, backed by 300 MPs, accuses Gachagua of gross misconduct and violating the Constitution.

The stakes are high, with the Deputy President’s political future hanging in the balance as the nation watches closely.
