Party On Wheels Bus That Killed 12 People Violated NTSA Laws

    According to preliminary reports, the bus that was involved in a horrific accident on Saturday, October 8, in the Subuiga area along the Meru-Nanyuki Road was operating illegally.

    According to officers investigating the fatal accident, the bus allegedly lacked a valid inspection certificate that would have declared it roadworthy.

    The certificate found at the scene of the accident expired on July 15, 2021.

    Despite serving as a Public Service Vehicle  (PSV), the Party on Wheels bus allegedly lacked a road service license that detailed its registration number, route served, Sacco contact, Sacco name, and license expiry date.

    The driver of the ‘party on wheels’ bus is reported to have lost control of the vehicle before hitting a 14-seater matatu and a lorry. He was among three people who died from the ‘party on wheels’ bus and nine other passengers who perished were from the matatu hit by the bus. 

    “The driver of the bus lost control and hit the emanating vehicle from the rear he also rammed another vehicle,” Laura Khatiebi, Deputy Sub-County Commander, Buuri West said. 

    A glimpse at the ‘PartyonWheels’ bus is in a video shared on social media, the luxury party bus is fitted with a sink, bathroom, bar section, dance floor, TV screens, sound system and a DJ Deck. 

    Inside the bus is a warning sign to those boarding, notifying them that they reserve the right of taking and using their pictures and videos in marketing their businesses online. 

    Police officers investigating the accident have since summoned the bus owner to record a statement and explain how the bus was operating without the required documents.
