Passenger Dies Onboard Kenya Airways Flight from New York to Nairobi

A Kenya Airways flight traveling from New York to Nairobi was marred by a tragic incident on Friday morning when an elderly passenger died mid-flight after experiencing a medical emergency.

The passenger was aboard Flight KQ003, which had departed from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and was headed to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), when they suddenly fell ill.

The airline confirmed that the crew reported the emergency to the Operations Control Centre at 8:40 a.m. Nairobi time.

Three medically trained passengers on board responded swiftly, working alongside the cabin crew to administer emergency aid using the aircraft’s medical equipment. Despite their best efforts to revive the individual, the passenger was pronounced dead at 9:10 a.m., before the aircraft could make an emergency landing.

The flight crew had initially planned a diversion to Entebbe International Airport in Uganda in search of urgent medical care. However, after the death was confirmed, the plane continued its scheduled journey to Nairobi in compliance with international aviation protocols.

The aircraft landed at JKIA at 10:27 a.m., where emergency responders, airport officials, and government representatives were on standby to receive it.

Kenya Airways has stated it is working closely with the deceased’s family and relevant authorities to provide support and ensure all procedures are followed appropriately.

“We send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the passenger. Kenya Airways remains committed to upholding the privacy and dignity of all involved during this difficult time,” the statement read.

An investigation is underway to establish the exact cause of death, with full cooperation from medical and regulatory bodies.
