An Indian national was apprehended at Kozhikode airport in Kerala, India, while reportedly attempting to smuggle narcotics valued at Sh20 million (Rs 44 crore) from Nairobi.

The 27-year-old suspect, intercepted by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), was found carrying 3.5 kilograms of cocaine and 1.3 kilograms of heroin concealed within shoes, jars, and purses strapped beneath his luggage.

The seized drugs, with a street value of at least Sh5 million per kilogram of cocaine in Kenya, highlight the increasing use of the country as a transit route for narcotics heading to Europe and Asia.

The suspect, hailing from Musafar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, is currently in custody as a thorough investigation unfolds.

This incident is the latest in a series of events raising concerns at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

It underscores the need for heightened vigilance and intervention by authorities, given the potential dangers associated with the growing trend of narcotics seizures in the region.

As investigations continue, it remains evident that tackling this emerging threat requires collaborative efforts between countries to curb drug trafficking and its impacts on society.
