Police in Mwithwa village, Mitunguu ward, Meru County, are looking for Boniface Mutuma, 37, a self-proclaimed pastor who allegedly stabbed his 36-year-old wife, Verah Kanario, and her 5-year-old son to death.
The tragic incident occurred around 11 a.m., and it is suspected that the pastor killed the little boy while his mother was out cleaning the chemist where she works before it opened.
When she returned, she was shocked to see her son stabbed in the neck, and her husband then attacked her, cutting her neck.
Neighbors reported that the couple had moved in despite being warned by their parents from both sides a month ago following a long-standing dispute in their marriage.
According to one of the neighbours, Romano Kirimi, they were given notice to leave the plot because of the husband’s alleged behaviour of blackmailing residents in the name of deliverance.
Richard Korgoren, Assistant County Commissioner Mitunguu Division, has stated that they believe the man is hiding in the nearest Tharaka Nithi County.
He also stated that he will face murder charges as soon as he is apprehended.
The bodies were taken to Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
