Pastor Denies Stealing Ksh.420,000 From Stanbic Bank

A local man of God was arraigned in Court facing charges of stealing Sh420,000 from Stanbic Bank during the December festive season.

Pastor Peter Irungu Mwangi appeared in Milimani Law Courts on six charges, including fabricating a national identity card, uttering a false document to a banker, stealing from a bank, and attempting to steal.

The pastor reportedly impersonated one John Karugu Macharia, from whose account the money was purportedly taken. This month’s offense occurred between December 21 and December 24.

The Pastor showed a fake national ID to a bank teller at Stanbic Kenya Limited’s Buruburu branch, saying it was his.

Further, the charge sheet stated that after the first successful withdrawal of Sh420,000 on December 21, the accused went to the bank on December 24 for another unsuccessful withdrawal of Sh435,000.

However, he denied the charges when he appeared before senior principal magistrate Esther Kimilu at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi.

He applied to be freed on bond saying he will abide by the conditions imposed by the court.

The court released him on a bond of Ksh 400,000.
