The second lady prayed for rain in the area and thanked Mutula for the gift.

The second lady, Pastor Dorcas Gachagua, presided over food distribution exercise in three sub-counties of Makueni County; Makueni, Kibwezi East, and Kibwezi West.

Governor Kilonzo presented the pastor with a basket of fruits as a token of Makueni residents’ hospitality.

The second lady prayed for rain in the area and thanked Mutula for the gift.

‘We want to thank our esteemed donors who are assisting us with relief food; they have been very generous to us,’ said Pastor Gachagua.

She promised that both levels of government would work together to end the drought.

‘Our country is in crisis; the drought we are experiencing across the country is the longest in the last 40 years, and the people of Makueni understand how devastating this drought has been. ‘The national and county governments will work together to mitigate this,’ she said.

In the event, Mutula Kilonzo promised to appoint church members to key county committees.

‘The church will play a central role in my government, and all ward committees will have a church official,’ promised the governor.

‘We want the church to play a central role in budget economic forums,’ he added.

Mutula also outlined the steps his government will take to alleviate the region’s drought. Makueni is one of the counties that has been severely impacted by the drought.

The governor promised to provide seeds (for various products) to every household and to heavily invest in mango production.
