Patrice Evra Stares At Jailterm Over Homophobic Remarks

Former Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra will be sentenced next week in a minor court in Paris for uttering homophobic remarks in 2019.

Evra, 41, who retired from football three years ago after winning 81 caps for France, was charged by two organizations with making public insults to a group of persons based on their sexual orientation.

Following United’s Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain in March 2019, Evra made comments about the French club on social media.

Evra and another man were in the back seat of a car when they respond to an online user’s views on PSG, telling him “this is Manchester. Stop going off on one (about PSG) and validating teams who will never win anything”.

At this point, Evra is alleged to have made two anti-gay slurs about PSG, before curtly adding “we’re men speaking here”.

PSG released a statement on Tuesday condemning what the club say were “homophobic insults”.
