Paul Ngugi has been named CEO of Geothermal Development Company (GDC) by Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Petroleum Davis Chirchir.
This comes after former CEO Eng. Jared Othieno’s resignation on April 18, 2023. The contract for Mr. Ngugi’s appointment is for a duration of three years, renewable once based on performance and the public officer retirement age. It becomes effective on April 24, 2023.
A total of 97 people applied for the post, of whom 15 were chosen for interviews. A shortlist of seven candidates was interviewed by the Board, which was chaired by Hon. Walter Nyambati, and three names were sent to the CS for consideration for the position.
Mr. Ngugi has a plethora of knowledge in the geothermal field spanning 25 years. He was the director of geothermal planning at Olkaria and a long-time drilling engineer for KenGen.
He presently serves as the Geothermal Association of Kenya’s (GAK) chairman.
