Paul Pogba Eyes France Call Up as He Joins Monaco

Paul Pogba has expressed his desire to return to the France national team, calling it “a dream and a bonus” during his unveiling at Monaco on Thursday.

The 32-year-old midfielder, who last played for Les Bleus in March 2022, is eager to re-establish himself at the highest level after a challenging period marked by injuries, legal issues, and a doping suspension.

Pogba, a World Cup winner in 2018, has earned 91 caps for France but has been absent from international duty since his suspension ended last year.

“It’s the wish of every French footballer to represent the national team,” he said. “Right now, I am focused on coming back and performing well. There are spots to be earned in a very talented squad.”

Despite his absence, France reached the final of the 2022 World Cup and the semi-finals of last year’s European Championship, losing both times to top opposition. Pogba’s return to form is seen as crucial for France’s future success.

He joined Monaco on a two-year deal, marking his first professional club in France. His career has been disrupted over the past three seasons—he has only made 12 appearances due to injuries, suspensions, and legal issues, including a failed doping test last August after a Juventus match.

Although eligible to return since March, his career faced further setbacks following his contract termination with Juventus last year.

Adding to his personal struggles, Pogba’s brother Mathias was sentenced in 2024 to three years in prison for involvement in an extortion plot against Pogba, who was targeted for €13 million ($15.3 million) in 2022.
