Pereira Gets New Wolves Deal Despite No Point Earned This Season

Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Vitor Pereira has committed his future to the club, signing a three-year extension through 2029, even as his team languishes at the foot of the Premier League table without a point from their opening four matches.

Pereira, who was appointed last December after the dismissal of Gary O’Neil, steadied Wolves with an immediate surge. A six-game winning streak in March and April lifted the club clear of relegation danger, and his side ultimately collected 33 points from 22 fixtures under his watch, the league’s 12th-best return across that span. Wolves finished comfortably above the bottom three by 17 points.

This season has proved far more difficult. Four successive defeats mark the club’s worst start to any campaign in its history, raising questions about whether Pereira’s honeymoon period had come to an end.

Yet Wolves’ hierarchy is opting for continuity, with Chairman Jeff Shi describing the Portuguese coach’s impact as “clarity, energy and team spirit” and insisting he deserves time to rebuild.

Pereira struck a similar note of resilience and togetherness. “This is the moment that we need to be united,” he told the club’s website.

“In the moments that we need to suffer, we need to suffer together. We are a one-club city, and this city loves football. This is the spirit we need to create to face the best teams in the league.”

His current Premier League win rate of 38 percent equals that of Nuno Espirito Santo, who led Wolves to back-to-back seventh-place finishes. Only Julen Lopetegui has posted a higher ratio in charge of the club.

Supporters will look for immediate evidence of progress when Leeds United visit Molineux this weekend. A defeat would see Wolves become only the sixth team in Premier League history to lose their first five matches of a season.

For now, Wolves are betting that Pereira’s stabilizing presence, the same qualities that rescued them a year ago, can again guide them through adversity.
