Women’s leaders have pushed presidential candidates DP William Ruto and Raila Odinga to seek female running mates for the 2022 elections.
The ladies started the presidential candidates must be in the vanguard in the quest of gender equality in the country, speaking in Kiambu with KANU Women Congress head Gladys Chania and her PNU counterpart June Waweru.
They emphasized that institutions such as the judiciary and the executive branch had done a good job of integrating women leaders and urged politicians to follow suit.
They emphasized the importance of having running mates from Mt Kenya, claiming that the region’s voting bloc deserves it.
At the same time, they urged for the security of female candidates during campaigns, citing an increase in incidences of violence against women.
