Plane Crashlands In Mogadishu Airport

Witnesses claim that the jet touched down and flipped over, then came to a stop in an upside-down position.

A plane carrying 36 people, including crew, crashed at the airport in Mogadishu on Monday, according to Somali authorities, but everyone on board managed to escape.

When the Jubba Airways aircraft crashed-landed at Mogadishu’s Adan Adde International Airport on Monday, it was carrying passengers from the city of Baidoa in the southwest.

Ahmed Moalim, Somalia’s civil aviation director, who spoke to VOA by phone, said the plane crashed around 11:00 a.m. local time while landing at the airport.

Witnesses claim that the jet touched down and flipped over, then came to a stop in an upside-down position.

Witnesses told VOA that firefighters rushed to extinguish the flames after the plane took fire.

Moalim said that only three of the 36 passengers on board suffered minor injuries despite the crash and the fire.
