Plea taking of murder suspect Cecilia Wangari adjourned to March 10

Milimani High Court Judge in Nairobi, Justice Alexander Muteti, today adjourned plea taking of a murder suspect in the death of Maxwel Wamwea to March 10, 2025.

The alleged suspect in the murder, Cecilia Wangari Kirisa was set to take plea today, however the prosecution moved the court seeking to defer the plea.

According to the prosecution, Cecilia has not undergone mental assessment, a procedure which has been adopted by Kenyan Courts before a capital offender is charged to ascertain his or her mental capability to stand trial.

In the case, Cecilia aged 39 years is to be charged with the murder of Maxwel Wamwea which is believed to have occurred on May 11, 2022, at Thome Estate within Kasarani Sub-County in Nairobi.

She is suspected to have colluded with another suspect yet to be arrested to murder the said Maxwel.

Initially, the case was reported to Kasarani Police Station as a mob justice incident.

However, following a complaint letter received on November 19, 2023, the DCI initiated fresh investigations.

After reviewing the file, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions recommended that Wangari, along with another suspect who is still at large, be charged with the murder of the deceased.

Wangari was apprehended at her hideout in an Airbnb in Thindigwa, Kiambu County.

The case will proceed on March 10,2025.
