Pochettino is believed to be leading candidates to replace Ole

Mauricio Pochettino is open to returning to the Premier League in a major boost for Manchester United.

The former Tottenham boss has only been with French giants Paris Saint-Germain since January 2021, but has often been linked with a swift exit.

Pochettino was said to be keen on a move back to Spurs in the summer, although he ultimately remained in the French capital.

And despite signing a contract extension until 2023, there is still a strong possibility he could then look to move on to a new challenge.

The Telegraph claim that the 49-year-old sees the Premier League as a viable destination for him, opening the door for the Red Devils.

United looked destined to be in the market for a manager at some point, with scrutiny regarding Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ’s position growing on a weekly basis.

Old Trafford bosses opted to hand the Norwegian a new contract during the summer, but recent performances have piled the pressure on his shoulders.

Thus far, the United board have remained defiant in the face of widespread criticism and have stuck with their man.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has consistently backed Solskjaer in the press and going back on that new deal so quickly could lead to more questions over the decision making process in place at the club.

But there is a feeling it is now more a matter of when rather than if they eventually relieve Solskjaer of his managerial duties.

According to the Sun, United are already sounding out potential successors to the current manager, with Brendan Rodgers the current favourite.

Pochettino’s stance on a return to these shores could change that however and he is believed to have many admirers behind the scenes at Carrington.
