Police in Nairobi arrested six suspected muggers in the Mathare slum on Monday, as security agencies continued to crack down on gangs terrorizing city residents.
The six men, aged 20 to 26, were flushed from their hideout in Mathare Area 1 hideout by police officers on patrol.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the suspects were found in possession of 4 knives, one stone, and 8 rolls of bhang.
NPS reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring peace and security in the city, which has recently seen an increase in criminal activity.
“The NPS remains unrelenting in the protection of life and property as security operations in various parts of the country intensify,” the police service said.
The 6 have since been processed and will be arraigned in court.
The arrests come few days after Inspector General Japhet Koome issued a stern warning to crime syndicates in Nairobi and across the country to either desist from crime or else face the full force of the law.
