The main suspects in a recent rash of robbery, defilement, and rape crimes recorded in Kapseret, Uasin-Gishu county, are currently in custody.
In an early morning raid conducted by detectives located at Uasin Gishu county headquarters, Kelvin Kipkemboi, 20, and Enock Kirwa, 20, were detained and various stolen items were recovered.
On March 26, the two, who were positively recognized by their victims, raped a student at the Eldoret National Polytechnic after breaking into a room where the student slept with her boyfriend in the Langas district.
After ransacking the room, the two, armed with a machete and a rungu, forced the woman to carry the belongings to a waiting Toyota Probox, where they were raped.
In a similar event a week previously, Kipkemboi and Kirwa defiled a 16-year-old girl in a similar manner. The two had carried the kid outside and defiled her in turns after breaking into her family’s home.
Detectives have been chasing down the machete-wielding thugs who have turned the life of locals in Langas and the surrounding areas into a nightmare.
A third suspect who is the recipient of the stolen electronic goods identified as Julius Kyalo, was also arrested in the well-coordinated swoop.
The suspects are currently in custody at Eldoret’s Central Police station, being processed for arraignment.
Meanwhile, crime scene experts based at the DCI National Forensic Laboratory will be obtaining DNA samples from the suspects for examination and analysis.
