Police Arrest Most Wanted Drug Peddler in Kirinyaga

Police in Kirinyaga County have arrested a most wanted drug peddler who has been supplying bhang to different parts of Gichugu Sub-County.

Confirming the arrest, Gichugu Sub-County Police commander Edward Ndirangu said the suspect has been escaping police nets but they managed to arrest him in Kianyaga near Kianyaga sub-county hospital and recovered 102 rolls of bhang and confiscated his motorcycle.

Ndirangu said the suspect is currently being held at Kianyaga police station where he is being interrogated.

“The 35-year-old man had been driving all the way from Wang’uru in Mwea constituency to sell bhang in Gichugu constituency and we suspect he had been targeting secondary school students,” Ndirangu said.

The police boss praised the members of the public for helping the police with information asking the residents to remain vigilant to identify criminals and report them in his office.

“We have no space left for drug dealers in Gichugu. We are alert and we act quickly,” Ndirangu added.

Kenya counselling and psychology association Kirinyaga branch led by their chairman Kamau Muchira have expressed concerns over cases of mental disorder and suicide in Kirinyaga as use of drug.

Speaking yesterday in Ngurubani during mental health day awareness urged youths to shun drugs and substance abuse.

“The nation is facing a bleak future as more youths are engaging in drug and substance abuse resulting in high numbers of teen pregnancies, suicidal activities and school dropouts,” Pastor Mwai said.
