Police arrest notorious robbery suspect, recover gun

In a swift operation following a tip-off from concerned locals, detectives from Rachuonyo North arrested a 34-year-old man suspected of drug peddling and illegal possession of a firearm.

In a statement on Sunday, December 22, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspect, Barnabas Okello, was apprehended at his residence in South Kanyaluo.

Following the suspect’s arrest, DCI said detectives seized a loaded firearm with four rounds of ammunition, several rolls of marijuana, and police gear including balaclavas and camouflage clothing.

The suspect had allegedly been seen with a firearm and was also known to engage in the sale of marijuana.

The arrest was carried out by detectives in collaboration with officers from the Kendubay Police Station, who had set up an ambush at Okello’s home after receiving credible reports.

“We thank the vigilant members of the public who are contributing significantly to the safety and security of their neighbourhoods by sharing credible information, and assure our fellow citizens that we stand on guard 24/7 to ensure that you enjoy your Christmas and New Year holidays bila mushkili,” DCI said.

The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue.
