Police Arrest Three, Recover Dozens of Stolen Mobile Phones in Nairobi CBD Sweep

Nairobi, Kenya – Three suspects are in police custody following an intelligence-led operation by Nairobi Area officers that uncovered a stash of suspected stolen electronics in the heart of the city.

The operation, carried out on 13 June 2025 along Tsavo Street in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD), led to the recovery of 75 mobile phonesseven computersa microscope, and 20 Universal Flashing Interface (UFI) gadgets, which are often used in the illegal reprogramming of stolen devices.

The National Police Service (NPS) confirmed that the suspects are being held as investigations continue, with formal charges expected once the probe is complete.

In a statement, the NPS issued a stern warning to members of the public against participating in mobile phone theft syndicates or engaging in the illegal flashing and resale of stolen devices. 

Authorities urged Kenyans to only purchase electronic gadgets from authorised and reputable dealers to avoid falling foul of the law.

“The public is strongly advised to desist from buying phones and other devices from suspicious or unauthorised vendors,” the statement read.

The arrests come amid heightened efforts by law enforcement to dismantle criminal networks exploiting Nairobi’s bustling electronics trade.
