Police Arrest Two In War Against Violent Gangs

Two thugs who had attacked a middle-aged man were fatally wounded by police officers as they fled the scene of the crime in Njiru, Nairobi County, on Wednesday night.

According to a report by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the two were part of a six-man gang that has been terrorizing residents in the larger Kayole area and had just knifed a man on his way home leaving him sprawled on the ground in a pool of blood.

“After taking away the victim’s mobile phone and other valuables, the six walked away casually towards an alley in Zanaki area, as members of the public who had witnessed the daring attack raised alarm,” the DCI said on Twitter.

Luckily, two officers based at Soweto police station who were on foot patrol responded to the distress calls on time, as the boisterous gang took leave casually.

The thugs immediately opened fire sending the officers to a prone position, as they responded to the provocation in equal measure.

Two of the criminals were killed in the process, while their four accomplices fled the scene with bullet wounds.

“One firearm and a bloodstained knife used in attacking the innocent civilians were recovered from the suspects,” added the DCI.

The injured man was taken to a city hospital by the police officers with the assistance of members of the public, where he was admitted in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the thugs were moved to the city mortuary pending identification.

Detectives in Kayole are on the lookout for the four suspects who escaped and urged them to denounce crime before they suffer the same fate as the Katombi gang in nearby Mathare.
