President William Ruto’s motorcade faced a brief disruption on Thursday afternoon as a group of youths in Kibera, Nairobi, sought to engage with him during his visit to Ayany Primary School.

The youths, mostly men, rushed toward the president’s convoy as he arrived to commission a local development project.

The situation escalated when police officers, stationed on high alert, intervened. Videos circulated online showing police officers forcefully blocking the youths from accessing the school compound.

Some of the officers were seen using physical force, beating up the youths who had breached the restricted area.

The scuffle left several residents injured, and some were seen fleeing the scene to avoid the escalating confrontation.

Despite the tense situation, a group of determined residents managed to overpower the officers and gain access to the school compound, where President Ruto proceeded to address students.

This disruption follows a series of incidents during the President’s development tour in Nairobi, including reports of muggings and vandalism.

In the past few days, videos have emerged showing youths in Mathare and Ruaraka harassing shopkeepers and commuters, prompting investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), which has arrested five suspects linked to the crimes.
