The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a statement clarifying the circumstances surrounding the tragic discovery of Justus Mutumwa’s body, refuting some of the reports circulating in both mainstream and social media.
According to the police, Mutumwa’s body was found floating in the Nairobi River, Ruai area, on December 18, 2024, at approximately 2:00 PM. A woman who was irrigating her vegetables along the river spotted the body and alerted the police.
Upon arrival, Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Ruai noted that the bruises and general condition of the body suggested foul play, prompting them to launch a murder investigation.
Family Reports Mutumwa Missing
At the time, Mutumwa’s identity was unknown, and his body remained unidentified at the City Mortuary. Meanwhile, on December 21, 2024, his family reported him missing at Athi River Police Station, stating that he had not been seen since December 17.
The report was logged under OB reference No. 23, and the family was unaware that a body had been found in Ruai just days earlier.
It was only after forensic investigations conducted by the relevant department that police were able to confirm that the unidentified body was indeed that of Justus Mutumwa.
Investigation Underway
The National Police Service has assured the public of its commitment to investigating all missing persons cases thoroughly.
The DCI is actively investigating the case, urging anyone with information to come forward.
