The National Police Service (NPS) has discredited a notice doing rounds on social media warning against unauthorized gathering at or around parliament building.
The notice comes as protests are expected to take place in the Central Business District in Nairobi on November 21, 2024.
The NPS made the communication through its official accounts stating that the flagged document was being circulated by unscrupulous impostors with criminal intent.
“We wish to caution the general public that the document circulating on social media, claiming to be from NPS, is malicious and fake. The document is from unscrupulous impostors with criminal intent,” said the NPS
The fake notice stated that the police the police have not been notified in advance on any public gathering set to take place. This therefore means that any gatherings that will take place will be regarded as unauthorized.
The notice went on to state that parliament is regarded as a protected area and a sensitive area and any unauthorized gathering around it will not be tolerated.
It went ahead to issue a stern warning to the organizers of the protests, failure to which they would face harsh consequences.
“We strongly urge the organizers to cease all activities around Parliament buildings. Failure to comply with this warning will result in appropriate enforcement of action in accordance with the law,” read the notice in part.
The notice ended with urging members of the public to take the matter seriously and follow the regulations concerning public gatherings.
