Police Constable sentenced to 35 years in jail for shooting husband 12 times

Eldoret High Court sentenced Police Constable Lilian Biwott to serve 35 years in jail for killing her spouse Victor Kipchumba in Eldoret.

While sentencing the police officer, Justice Reuben Nyakundi said Biwott expressed cruelty by shooting her defenseless husband 12 times.

The judge said there was no evidence that the accused person was in self-defense since nothing proved that her spouse had provoked her.

Justice Nyakundi also said the police officer abused her firearm, knowing fully well that it was not in order as per the police standing orders.

He said her act has tormented the deceased’s family, especially his aging mother who is now depressed and psychologically disturbed.

He said cases of gender-based violence and femicide have been on increase in the country and thereby there is need for harsh punishment.
