Police Destroy Over 10,000L Of Illicit Alcohol In Nyahururu

Over 10,000 litres of illicit brews were impounded and destroyed by police officers in Nyahururu Sub-County at Maina Village.

The operation took 8 hours in the village which is on the outskirts of Nyahururu town.

The officers were affected by rough terrain and elephants grazing near where most of the brewing operators were found.

Nyahururu Division Assistant County Commissioner Vicky Munyasia said the brew had infiltrated the area, leaving users in poor health.

The brew is locally known as Kangara.

Police officers, chiefs and sub-chiefs were led by Munyasia in destroying the apparatus.

Munyasia regretted that the brewer, who was flushed out of Thompsons Falls last month, had set up shop in the Judea area, further propagating the vice.

She said that the brew had been prepared from chick mash and rotten maize which was a great health threat.

Additionally, she noted that the government was committed to fighting the vice 100% for the good of the people.

“The team was tipped last night that the brewer had relocated to the area, prompting the raid on Thursday morning,”Area Senior Chief Joseph Muraya said.

Further, he called on the youths, men, and women to avoid the brews that have continued to wipe generations.

The incident comes in the wake of the fight against illicit and counterfeit alcoholic drinks, by the Ministry of Interior, which is said to infiltrate the region, especially during the campaign period.
