Police FC to Fly Kenyan Flag at 2025 CECAFA Kagame Cup

The Kagame Cup is East and Central Africa’s oldest club competition, and its return promises thrilling action as clubs battle for bragging rights and regional supremacy.

Kenyan Premier League champions Kenya Police FC will represent the country at the 2025 CECAFA Kagame Cup, set to take place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from September 2 to 15.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by CECAFA Executive Director Auka Gecheo, who confirmed that 12 teams will participate in the regional club championship, which returns to the Tanzanian capital after a brief hiatus.

“We expect to have a more competitive tournament as most teams will use it for CAF preparations,” said Gecheo, underlining the importance of the Kagame Cup as a pre-season testing ground for continental hopefuls.

Hosts Tanzania will be represented by domestic giants Young Africans SC and Simba SC, while a guest team from outside the CECAFA region is also expected to join the lineup.

The other confirmed clubs for the tournament include Vipers SC (Uganda), El Merriekh SC Bentiu (South Sudan), Mlandege SC (Zanzibar), Al Hilal (Sudan), Ethiopia Insurance (Ethiopia), MCC FC (Somalia), APR FC (Rwanda), Aigle Noir FC (Burundi) and ASAS Djibouti Telecom (Djibouti).

The Kagame Cup is East and Central Africa’s oldest club competition, and its return promises thrilling action as clubs battle for bragging rights and regional supremacy.

For Kenya Police FC, who clinched their first-ever league title this year, the Kagame Cup will be a chance to measure themselves against regional heavyweights ahead of their debut CAF Champions League campaign.
