Police Foil Smuggling of Uncustomed Ethanol in Baringo

Police in Baringo County have intercepted a vehicle ferrying suspected uncustomed ethanol in Koibatek following a successful intelligence-led operation.

The incident occurred on September 22, 2025, when officers from Eldama Ravine Police Station flagged down a motor vehicle, registration number KDM 652S, in the Torongo area.

The driver defied the order, made a U-turn, and attempted to flee, but with the help of members of the public, the vehicle was stopped.

A search of the vehicle uncovered 42 jerricans, each with a capacity of 25 litres, believed to contain ethanol. The driver was immediately arrested and placed in custody pending processing and arraignment.

The vehicle has since been impounded at the Eldama Ravine Police Station.

In a statement, the National Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to combating the smuggling of uncustomed goods, stressing the importance of protecting the country’s economy and ensuring public safety.

Authorities further appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and continue partnering with law enforcement agencies in curbing illegal trade.
